Re: Jaw Jacking

Good morning! (insominia, again. my days 'n nights get twisted around. i think i sprung my biological clock.) I like that logo ... sexed up variant of 'antix' which I'm guessin' is a reference to the distro... one of the better ones. (anything debian is better, imho) And that moniker ... loosely com...

Re: Howto market SolydXK

No curtains! We're a couple of ol'farts ... we let it all hang out. Don't like the view? Don't look!
I s'pose we could scurry off to another corner of this "Chat" section, but what's the fun of that? ;)

Re: Firewall settings?

Thanks for the information. Not that it helps me, much. I did a Google search for 'debian firewall rules' and came up with some good hits, to help me understand what's involved. It turns out that messing about in the iptables is about as safe as wading through a swamp infested with 'gators and crocs...

Firewall settings?

Distrowatch lists a new review: LinuxBSDos. Read it, am not impressed. Reviewer seems to think SolydXK should be something other? Strikes me as a carping, disgruntled sort of fellow who had burned eggs for breakfast. However, one point: he questioned why the Firewall settings in "settings/system set...

Re: the French cloud storage site: I'm delighted to say they have an English page: https://hubic.com/en They offer 25gb free storage, plus larger plans for an annual fee. They have a beta app for Linux, and a .deb file to download and install. I passed on that, as it requires a full mono 25-package ...

Re: Howto market SolydXK

"Chained to the neck..." Ayup, I can relate to that feeling. There's a lovely adage which says that no good deed shall go unpunished. Too often we ignore that warning, and charge ahead regardless. I've done a fair amount of helping elder friends with their Windows problems. Several of them are runni...

Re: SolydK LTS (Long Term Support)

Words are my life, so I'm easily confused by them ... (words have complex shades of meaning) On the SolydXK home page, the box for BE says "Three Year Support" -- my immediate reaction was a nervous gut feeling, "What happens after three years? When did it begin ... when does it end? etc." The phras...

Re: Hello from Everett, WA, USA

Welcome, Everett!! (I'm at the other end of the ferry run from you, on Whidbey Island!) You'll find it takes time to adjust to the Linux lifestyle, but with familiarity comes respect. Maybe you'll miss the nagging intrusions and interruptions from the Windows OS, but then again, maybe not? The bigge...

Re: Howto market SolydXK

Tks, fleabus ... it's a pleasure to hang out here with another ol'fart. BTW, I'll slip in a plug for another small miracle in the digital world (SolydXK being a miracle in it's own right): that of Scrivener, which is a wordsmith's toolkit for folks who pound keys and produce verbiage by the bucketfu...

Re: Howto market SolydXK

Thanks for the kind remarks. Obviously, I'd like to help any way I can. Mostly, I write, proofread, and edit. I've been able to maintain my own website and WordPress pages without blowing them up (much). Documentation and news and such might be a good area, if I have some notes to work from (I'm not...

Re: Howto market SolydXK

This is my first post on the SolydXK forum. Rather than suggest how to market this distro, I'd like to explain how I found it, why I was looking, and why I'm recommending it to people ranging from my 15-year-old grandson to an 83-year-old friend. Me? I'm 73. Back in 1974 I was entering typesetting c...
