Okay, thank you Arjen.
Since I have no knowledge of how Debian does its thing, what is your general idea about updates on older versions? I would think they still appear otherwise my neighbor would have said something when she does no longer receive updates.
Searched the Debian website just now, which is not so easy to do, and I have found that Jessie will be the next LTS version, starting in June of this year. It will then be maintained for another almost 2 years till April 2020.
So, this means you will also be releasing the Debian updates until April 2020? That is wonderful.
It means I don't have to teach her new things right now. Although, KDE 5 is not that much different from KDE4 for a normal computer user.

Thanks Arjen.

Almost right :)
Debian releases the Debian updates. I have no saying in this. I am responsible over the SolydXK repository and its packages.

Yes of course.
But because Debian repos are used in SolydXK updates will come in.
Thanks Arjen.

Hello :)
I was thinking to upgrade my desktop from SolydX 8 to 9, but the script is no longer available (zip file url on the first post). There is any chance of get that file to avoid do an installation from scratch? :?:
Thanks.

PD: This is my first post! :P

Welcome to our forum, jaw2!

You cannot use the upgrade script anymore. It can only be used during the stable transition (when Debian testing becomes Debian stable).

There is no easy way to upgrade now unless you know what to do when things go wrong.

The safest way to upgrade is to do a clean install, I'm afraid. If you do, make sure to backup your /home directory.

Two weeks ago I used script solydfixes from https://www.duinsoft.nl/solydfixes.php to upgrade SolydX8 to SolydX9. I used the script with arguments upgrade (to do the upgrade) and dmo (to remove dmo packages). The first run failed trying to update the DMA package (lightweight mail). I removed that package (don't need it right now) and run the scripts again. The second run worked. So far everything I need and use is working w/o issues.

Never. Linux is about freedom, nobody will force you, ever.

But if your device is connected to the internet and you want to stay secure: Debian jessie - and thus SolydXK8 - has LTS support until June 30, 2020. But maybe you should not wait that long to update. Depending on your reasons of course.

I for example do not expect much. I like to install for a newer version.
I already installed SolydK 9.
