SolydXK 201902 released

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 03 Mar 2019 10:52

The new 201902 ISOs were released. These are some of the highlights:
  • The Live Installer will update itself when starting. It should show its update progress but sometimes it takes a while before it shows.
  • The Live Installer now supports f2fs and nilfs2 file systems for flash drives.
    Wiki f2fs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F2FS
    Wiki nilfs2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NILFS
  • Partition encryption during installation has been improved.
  • We changed the SolydXK Firefox settings even further to improve user privacy and also comply with Mozilla's distribution policies. This is done in the firefox-solydxk-adjustments package which can be purged if you don't need it.
  • Waterfox is now packaged and distributed by the SolydXK repository. You can install Waterfox with this command: apt install waterfox waterfox-solydxk-adjustments.
  • Several new features were added and many bugs were solved in our SolydXK applications.
Frank also released The Enthusiast's Editions and the SolydXK 32-bit editions. These ISOs are community editions which means that they are created, tested and maintained by the community. You can post your issues with these ISOs here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t;=7015

Technical issues have prevented us to update the SolydX RPi3 image. You can still download the 201807 version from the download page until we solve these issues.

You can download the ISOs from our community site: https://solydxk.com/downloads
Do not forget to verify your download before you use it.

Enjoy this new release!

Waterfox is a great conservative alternative to firefox quantum. Most of the older XUL addons still work and at the same time waterfox is up-to-date security-wise.
In any case it's good to have more than one browser at hand.

I just installed SolydX 201902. Just one glitch : I have a few more partitions then / and /home. The installer worked just fine, but it didn't keep the «labels» I entered. I had to correct that after the installation (gparted). And I noted that, as I gave my custom mount points, my partitions were by default formatted, which I find relatively dangerous. Earlier was that not the case, and, had I not noticed it, I would have formatted my precious partitions.

Except that, no problem.

Thank you for this fantastic distribution, and thank you for your fantastic work.

:)

Curiously, that is something I thought I noticed as well, during one of the tests. But the next time I did an installation, everything worked as expected, so I didn't mention it. Now I'm starting to think this is a random error. And aren't those fun to diagnose...

You need to empty the label text field and select the first entry (empty field) in the format drop down in the partition dialog. This will set the custom mount point in fstab and leave the partition as-is. I did check just now and this functions as expected.

Code: Select all

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-x4nJmr/045-albatross-gtk-theme_1.7.4-1_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code
I got this also. Not important, but. :)

Is it really as intended to have vi(m) not installed by default (on SolydK)? ;)

Code: Select all

root@bashost:/etc/apt #>>> vi sources.list
-su: vi: opdracht niet gevonden
(I have been absent from the forum for quite some time, sorry for not being involved in testing the latest release..)

German keyboard layout is only available in swiss variant, but not DE/AT (German/Austrian) variant (there is quite the difference, the swiss variant has a layout that also convenient for typing french) in the live session SolydK image. Mind that German and Austrian variant is one and the same thing.
Haven't found out yet if it can be selected at installation because the installer isn't working for me.
