I've updated 2 desktop and 1 laptop computers so far, with minor issues on all 3:

1. no welcome tune or leave sound anymore when logging in or leaving.
2. I use the folder layout on the desktop settings along with "slideshow" Wallpaper setting. When I make a change, it disappears from the "custom folders" box the next time I go there....yet the change still works. I cannot add another folder...it just replaces the old one and then disappears.

[I'm guessing these issues are KDE update related and not SolydK update related.]

3. the update removed the plasma-widget-smooth-tasks widget. When I try to add it back from Synaptic, I get an error..."Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages first". If I quit Synaptic, there are no broken packages listed the next time I start it.

Again, thanks for all the hard work that went into this UP!!!!

Hi,
Some problems for me..
After upgraded I noticed that I had lost all widgets and that I am still on KDE 4.10.5 - according to start->system settings->help->about kde.

Have tried with apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, but there are nothing left to be installed.

Do anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Sure zerozero:

Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/packages/ solydxk main upstream import
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/soly ... roduction/ testing main
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/soly ... /security/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

I think it used to be four, right?

yep
those repos are messed up

Code: Select all

kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
and replace ALL the content of the file with

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/ solydxk main upstream import community kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/ testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia/ testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
(save and close the file)
then

Code: Select all

apt update && apt dist-upgrade
bliss of ignorance

Too much for me to understand but maybe someone else can make something of it. As I said before I am running previous kernels with out a problem so really not a big deal.

Zero,
Not sure why all that happened either.
Updating through the command line worked fine.
There was a screen that showed warnings about some of the packages and I had to answer a screen that was going to update a config file. Maybe that was interfering with the update manager.
After all the updates were complete and a reboot. Update manager shows all is updated.
Thanks
Dan

Thanks zerozero I missed that. I seem to remember doing update from experimental of plymouth and I guess nvidia months back due to issues with plymouth then finally disabling plymouth. I did update another system (third) with no problems.

Decided to redo my system installation so that I have /home on a separate partition. After install I ran UP 2013.09.06 which took about 20=25 minutes total to run and finish. Rebooted and everything went great. The system is running sweet like candy. ;)

Thank you so much to everyone who worked on this.

I ran inxi -Fxx out of curiosity and I noticed the kernel is still at 3.9.1. after the UP was installed on Saturday.
Will this be ok?

1- you rebooted in the meantime?

2- are you multibooting? which distro controls the MBR? if you installed solydK's grub in its own partition you have to go to the distro that has control over MBR and do

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
3- share the output of

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | egrep '(linux-image|linux-headers)'

I have re-booted several times since the update. I am multi-booting, 5 distros. I booted Ubuntu, which controls the MBR, and ran sudo update-grub, then re-booted SolydK then ran the second command.
here is the output:

Code: Select all

you have the 3.10 kernel installed.
BUT you must have the choice in grub menu, if not, ubuntu is not the master of grub. if you want this, perhaps you can, with ubuntu

Code: Select all

su
grub-install /dev/sda
update-grub

You can also use the "boot repair" utility in Ubuntu, or download it and burn to CD and boot from it to repair your Grub..... http://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair/
I don't think it's failed me in perhaps 20 or so multi-boot issues over the last year or so.

Thanks for the help.
I used kyodev's method but from SolydK and then ran "sudo nano /etc/default/grub" to get my default boot to LMDE, which my wife uses. Now have 3.9.2 or 3.10.2, to boot from, so success. :)

I'm another one with the Plymouth (PAE?) problem.

After updating this afternoon (apparently successfully) - when I rebooted the start-up stopped with a 'Plymouth failed .....' .
(after the 1st SolydX logo page was displayed)
This happened with new new kernel and the older one.
Since I backed up the 'system' partition with Clonezilla before updating I was able to restore and continue (without the updates).

I've got a 4-core I5
Sorry no more technical information - I was in a hurry and restored fairly quickly.
I'll have another go soon when I've worked out how to disable Plymouth (no 'dpm' program)

Iain
I've now got the time. I disabled Plymouth with Debian Plymouth Manager (found it - looked at the Menu !), re-backed up(!) and then re-updated to 2013.09.06 06.00 UTC and everything seems to have worked OK.
Thanks you to Schoelje and all the team.

Later I'll post some personal history on the appropriate topic. But thanks for an easy to use, tidy and fast system.

I've not yet applied the Update Pack because last I heard KDE users had been advised to wait.
Also I've been waiting for the AUS mirror to be synchronised.

I haven't been following the relevant threads closely enough so I have to ask...

Is it safe for KDE users to upgrade.

Is the AUS mirror OK or should I forget about it?

My sources.list doesn't have a line which looks exactly like

deb http://packages.solydxk.nl/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext community

Code: Select all

deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/packages/ solydxk main upstream import community kdenext
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/packages/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext community
deb-src http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/production testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb-src http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/solydxk/debian/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
At this stage I need some guidance.

hi
actually, you have holland repos. they are good, but the simplest way is to choose with updatemanager:
Edit / preferences
repos
test speed
don't choose internode, it seems out:
http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... =internode

yes, offically, for Kde, we must wait ;)
I think that information is not up to date, but update from Holland or Usa mirrors are good.

The UP was released on 13 September: http://solydxk.nl/up-2013-09-06-ready/
and it's safe to upgrade.

Unfortunately, after repeated messages, the Internode mirror is not synchronized. I advise to choose another (and I see you already have).

If you don't have that line, you don't need to change, yet.
The mirrors still need to synchronize, but if they do, I will blog/post/morse/shout about it, and how you have to change your sources.list.
