If it is in the best place why are there so many queries - 2 pages!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "so many queries". If you visit the main forum index page the sources are "stickied" for each release. One for production, one for testing, one for sid.

Image

Once you visit the page for your particular release, production, testing, or sid, there is one instance of the sources.list pertaining to that particular distribution. So in other words, they are in one place, right here under "important notices"... http://forums.solydxk.com/index.php

Would you believe because when people read, they people read what they expect to see. As I said before, this thread appears at the top of each sub-forum as an announcement. This visually seperates it from sub-forum stickies, making it easier to find.

After making these changes and running the update, I got only ignores, and fails.

I changed /preferences.d to preferences.solydxk and reran update, but still had few 'hits':

I've tried replacing the sources list with the one at the start of this thread. Never seen anything like this before.
Maybe I have seen this before. If it does not fix, then I'll reinstall with a DVD instead of USB, I can't remember the details, yet.

Thank you, Schoelje. I am working on redoing my T61 so it's using SolydX now (this machine is old and found it isn't as snappy with KDE for some reason).

What I do for the web servers at work is set up a script on a cron job that tests the server every 5 minutes and if it's not working, then it would set something in a log file (which it also checks). Then after 3 attempts, it would email me. That way I know the server is really in trouble and can take action as soon as possible.

RavenLX,
I would be interested in your script for my server. Is it possible you could share?
Thanks

Re: Sources.list

It's a custom-made script for the work server. I just took a look at it. It's written in Perl. I'd have to really rewrite it in order for others to be allowed to use it. I've been super busy unfortunately so I don't think I'd have time to re-write it. However, the idea is that you use sendmail to send email to you if the server is down. You check it by checking if a web site is accessible (say an index page or something). Then if it's not accessible, write to /var/log/something_you_name it a number, such as 1 for first time it was down. If it's up on the next check, write 0. If the number hits 3, then have it email you. You may want to put in there something like -1 so if your server is constantly rebooting, it won't keep emailing you. Then when you fix it, just delete the /var/log/something_you_name file and it can start over. Be sure that it first checks if the log is there and how many times the server was down before you write to the log and decide to send an email.

It is a lot easier to type all that then recode it in general because I have it using specific information in secure libraries for the scripts.

The sources.list for the BEs have changed now that they have their own repositories.
Announcement was made for the release of SolydX BE: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3942

OP adapted accordingly.

As with UP 07/2014 kdenext has been dropped, shouldn't the OP be updated?

Especially:

Code: Select all

deb http://home.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext

updated 2014-02 missing KDM "solydk" theme file ... (KDE + X

Postby guiverc » 03 Feb 2015 13:53

This is posted mostly as a FYI.

Just updated my SolydXK box (have XFCE & KDE desktops installed); 32bit.

Partition was formatted 2010; but from browsing / directory (dates of creation of system directories) install looks like beginning August 2013.

`updatemanager -f` worked fine.

On reboot however; KDM no longer allowed login; gave a "OK"-error-box about a missing "theme" solydk then just black screen.

I switched to TTY; `cd /usr/share...` & made directory "soldyk" it wanted in themes; then copied the "oxygen' [theme] directory into "solydk" directory & rebooted. Yes a crappy hack but made kdm happy. (Yes I was using KDM before this update so NO change change of DM)

Now system is fine & usable again.

Could be an issue because I have both desktops loaded??
I have never had a "UpdateManager" icon on the menu's (yes has appeared after prior quarterly updates but disappears on reboot) though it was never used as previously reported, always refused to update a "live" system & on forum was told to use 'updatemanager -f". My update was thus always performed with "updatemanager -f"
(`history | grep updateman | wc` gave 21 runs in last 1000... though some just 'up-to-date' checks)

I used kdm to run kvkbd (onscreen keyboard for login) though was >ten months ago so if switch to lightdm more recent i'd be using lightdm and my comments wrong. Reason was to explore solydxk for install on wacom tablet pc hence kvkbd and kdm.

Appreciate (regex)live removal line. Thank you

Is there any particular reason not to use httpredir.debian.org (or http.debian.net, which is an alias for it) in the current sources.list? It seems a better choice than ftp.debian.org, which has to be set to a mirror manually.
