After limiting my sources.list to these repositories as suggested

[Production - SolydX]
Open a terminal and run:

Code: Select all

gksudo mousepad /etc/apt/sources.list

Copy and paste the following (you can replace all), save, and close the editor:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main
After changing the /etc/apt/sources.list file, do not forget to run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

just after I thought I did everything I was suppose to get my system working

I noticed this in the update manger after clicking on information:

That is strange enough! Gotta ask ....

After the

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

Did you run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I don't know what was the situation before you made this change, but I recommend that you at least run these commands:

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/apt/preferences /etc/apt/preferences.solydxk
sudo apt-get install updatemanager

Sure no problem:

I dont see the point of the sudo when I can just open the terminal as a root user and only have to type in the passsword once.

# mv /etc/apt/preferences /etc/apt/preferences.solydxk
mv: cannot stat ‘/etc/apt/preferences’: No such file or directory

# apt-get install updatemanager
Bus errorackage lists... 37%

Nothing seem to be working.

Hello!

Thanks for all the good work! :D

I have a question regarding the repositories. I started with the configuration below for my system (SolydX 201401 amd64) before UP 2014.04.15:

deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main

After the update I had a smoothly running system. One thing that confuse me are the repositories that UM uses after UP 2014.04.15:

Is there anything I have done wrong or is this the way it is supposed to be? I do not want to follow testing. I want to wait for the next quarterly update. :?:

Please, check the Opening Post (OP) again: you're missing the SolydXK packages repository:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext

Thanks for your prompt reply!

I edted my souces.list file through mousepad to the below:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main

and then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

The output from UM (2.1.0) is:

Code: Select all

The short answer - Yes.

A longer answer - I'm not sure about this, but it's been my experience that when the /etc/apt/sources.list file is changed and the user subsequently executes

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
that the system (apt?) runs something analagous to a diff between what you have and what's in the repos.

Re: Sources.list

Curious about a few of my testing repos in sources list. A while ago I decided to upgrade to testing on one of my machines and upgrade to sid on another. I was scanning through this thread just out of boredom and noticed my testing repos are a little different than what is posted here. It's been a while since I upgraded so I was wondering if something has changed since then. Btw, I have no issues at all, just curious if I should change my testing repos.

Here are my current sources for testing.

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/testing/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org testing main non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/testing/ solydxk main

Here are the sources this thread says I should be using.

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/testing/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/testing testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/testing/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/testing/ solydxk main

Notice the KDE Next and community repos are the same as what this thread says they should be, but the other three in my sources.list are pointing directly to debian and not "debian.solydxk" which this thread says they should be. Now I can't remember for sure because it's been a while, but I thought at the time I upgraded to testing I copid the sources from a thread here. Has anything changed and should I switch my testing repos to the ones in this thread? Like I said, the system has been fine, no problems at all the whole time I've been using my current repos. Also, my sid sources are exactly what the sid thread has listed. It's just my testing machine that has the different repos.

If you don't have problems, and you like to have a real rolling release, you should just leave it as is.
If you want to use that system to help out testing the Update Packs, you should change them to the sources mentioned in the OP.

Thanks for the quick reply schoelje. Now that you mention it I just might have changed those three so it would be pure rolling and more like my Semplice box and just forgot. Also since you mentioned it ;) I think I will change them so that I can help with testing and make my self more useful.

Schoelje,
Correct me if I am wrong, but his first list is for "Debian" testing and the second list is "Solydxk" Testing.
Debian testing is far more dangerous to use. It is the testing that happens before Solyd gets it.
Thanks

In preparation to a more flexible maintenance of the repositories, I've changed some naming conventions for the repositories. Now they all have a more consice naming: repository_name.solydxk.com/production

Changes:
packages.solydxk.com/production becomes: home.solydxk.com/production
packages.solydxk.com/testing becomes: home.solydxk.com/testing
packages.solydxk.com/business becomes: business.solydxk.com/production
packages.solydxk.com/business-testing becomes: business.solydxk.com/testing

The old naming conventions will continue to function

The OP has been adapted.

May I suggest a permanent/sticky Sources list entry perhaps in a dedicated spot.

This should provide the recommended sources lists for each of the respective breeds in the Solydk stable.

The information should include the issue date, a 'change' note giving the details of what has changed and perhaps a cheery "god luck" to the installer.

Just a thought.
