UP 2013.10.06 12:00 UTC [PRODUCTION] [DONE]

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 05 Oct 2013 20:11

[EDIT - 7 October 2013]
These mirrors are synchronized, and you can use them to update your system:
  • NLUUG
  • Tuxlinuxnews
Unfortunately, Internode has done a partial synchronization where the packages repository is up-to-date, but the Debian repository still hasn’t been synchronized since the August Update Pack.
Please, use our main repositories, or one of the above mentioned mirrors instead.

You can set the desired mirror in the preferences window of the Update Manager.

[Original message]
Ladies and gentlemen,

Those who haven’t upgraded from the testing repositories, and depending on whether you’re a SolydX or SolydK user you will have between 200MB until 350MB of packages to download.

You might have a slow download if people upgrade at the same time. Try again at a later date or time.
Now that the main site, and forum are running on a separate server, they should be available at all time.

If you encounter any problems, post your findings in this topic.

I won’t be making new iso’s this time (really, I mean it ;) ).

Below you see the information shown by the "Update Pack Info" button in the Update Manager after the repository synchronization.

Please carefully read the info page below.

I had to adapt the pre script.
If ndiswrapper-dkms is reinstalled, it will fail on some machines (it did on one of mine).
Downgrading the package in the pre script will prevent this from happening.

OP, main site's blog, info page in UM, all adapted:

Code: Select all

apt-get install ndiswrapper-dkms=1.58-2

I updated my system SolydX with Gnome. It was more than 500 Mb

UM updated itself and then it dissapeared from notification area. Then, I opened a terminal and run

Code: Select all

updatemanager

It asked for my root password, and then it wrote this error

Code: Select all

glibtop: Non-standard uts for running kernel:
Then I go to a terminal (Alt-Ctrl-F1) a I did sudo aptitude upgrade and sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
I had not to reinstall nvidia driver because UM did it
And all is working perfect

Thanks for your work

Kde-windows-manager uninstalled after Oct upgrade

Postby Rebelyouth » 06 Oct 2013 20:31

Hi again,
I did the monthly upgrade today, all ok with the exception of Kde-windows-manager.

I did reset the pc and I got a blank screen first , after I received a error about plasma, no desktop, nothing.

I have Yakuake installed and it was started fine so I tried to launch kwin but I received a message the Kde-windows-manager package was not installed,so I with a quick :

sudo apt-get install kde-window-manager

I fixed the issue,so now I can back on my desktop and exnjoy KDE 4.11.2.

Just an ahead up if you have this problem.

can you please share the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -r; cat /etc/apt/preferences
and also

Code: Select all

cat /etc/var/log/apt history.log
(this last one is a large output, please use code tags when posting)

Broken after upgrade. :(

Did a full update of SolydX32_201309 to UP-2013.10.06.
Now it refuses to boot.
I'm beginning to believe that Ane is correct, this box is haunted.
Apropos for Halloween I suppose, but a real pain in the neck.

So, I'm looking for suggestions on how to either roll it back,
or at least get it to boot. I tried changing the linux boot line
in grub to nosplash, noplymouth, no-plymouth, ...
but it still hangs complaining about Plymouth.

And it was working so well. Had just reinstalled SolydX32_201309 and solved all problems.
Here's inxi:

Richard
can you still boot into the 3.10.2 kernel?
try to disable plymouth from there with debian-plymouth-manager.
(btw, that inxi is not from within SolydX, is it?)

@zz,
No, doesn't want to boot either 3.10.2 or 3.10.3 which are the only choices after the UP.
No, the inxi is from SalineOS2. The repos are from the SOLX partition, though.

Have some information for you.

I did the upgrade this afternoon and was unable to boot into the new kernel or any of the older ones but was able to get into the recovery modes. I have a 6 gig root partition that had used previously about 4.8 g . The warning I got was that my root partition was full. I checked it with a live gparted and in fact was loaded 100%. Using Bleachbit as root from recovery I cleaned out all the temp files which were around 1g and a few smaller obsolete apt files. Don't know what impact this loading up had but I am now able to get back into X and reboot normally. :)

I had posted in the Xfce specific section of the forum with the initial problem but deleted that post when I saw this thread and the new upgrade data posted which I had not yet noticed..

Tried it again. Both 3.10.2 and 3.10.3 give similar result:
Started the Winbind daemon
then
FAIL: startpar: services returned failure: plymouth ... failed!
and it hangs there.

Just to add, I elected not to run plymouth during bootup during the original installation although I never removed it. The current booting problems with the upgrade may be some compound issue. Hope you get it figured out Richard.

Thanks MisterGil.

I was just feeling adventuresome and thought I'd see if Plymouth was working,
since everything else was working so well.
When I first installed SolX I had to turn off Plymouth or the installer would hang. :)

I guess I need to start googling for boot parameters to see if I can stop Plymouth.

Tried booting again.
this time when I got to the hanging point,
Ctrl-F2 to a tty, login and sudo su to root.

With mc and nano edited /default/grub to remove "quiet splash" from the grub line.

Then rebooted, at grub, e to edit and removed splash from the linux boot line.

All to no avail.

There must be a way to turn off Plymouth.!?

Thanks for any ideas. Good night.

Edit /default/grub, and leave "quiet":

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge plymouth*
For good measure:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

Hi,

I tried to update with the update manager but now I run into problems. After update manager successfully updated itself I started the system update and then a dialog came up

Code: Select all

E: Package ndiswrapper-dkms needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal cache memory error. Please report the error.
and next

Code: Select all

An error has occurred while updating the apt cache. Please, check your sources.list
When I try fixing it from the terminal

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a
I get

Code: Select all

dpkg: error processing ndiswrapper-dkms (--configure):
Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
 reinstall it before attempting configuration.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 ndiswrapper-dkms
I also tried reinstalling it through

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ndiswrapper-dkms
but no luck here as well

Code: Select all

E: The package ndiswrapper-dkms needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
Here' my list of sources

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
Another bad thing is that my synaptic is giving me similar errors and exiting before I can do anything.

Can anyone help?
