ZDNet Reviews SolydXK

Postby zerozero » 09 Dec 2013 22:24

very interesting reading at ZDnet - Solydxk hands on: two good Linux distributions with a solid base

always nice to see the reviewer actually using the distro.

Much appreciated, J.A. Watson.

Saw the snarky comments at the website.

I do agree, however. that SolydK takes an awfully long time to boot (for whatever reason). Since I never shutdown (only suspend), it's not a deal breaker.

I just read it. Very nice.
Which remins me that I need to find a way (and time) to do something about a UEFI supporting installer.
I think I will blog this later today.

Nice review! Made me want to try Solydk again. Tried it awhile back and had a few bugs, but it looks extremely well polished and is working very well now. Good job!

Hi kbd, and welcome to our forum!
You used a different nick name then?
Well, enjoy your new SolydK, and let us know how it goes.

Never read the comments on ZDNet... the toxicity of the trolls that roam the comments section there is ridiculous. But it was a nice, if short, review.

Just wanted to say "hi!" back to you guys. Thought I had subscribed to this thread but must have forgot to click the box.
The distro is working great for me so far. Wondering how the overall stability has held up for those who have used it from the start?
Happy New Year!

Hi All,

As the author of said ZDNet "mini review", I would first like to say thanks for taking the time to notice and perhaps read it.

As someone else mentioned above, please disregard the extremely negative comments that are often posted there. There are a few obnoxious readers who insist on adding rubbish comments to anything related to Linux. I judiciously ignore them, and the worst seem to be already getting bored and going away.

The main reason I am here is to say that if you do decide to work on UEFI boot, I would be happy to help by testing it on my UEFI systems.

Best regards,

jw

Hi J.A.,

Welcome to our forum!

Indeed, the virtual anonymity of the internet gives some people a carte blanche to disregard any respect, or common sense.
I also get those e-mails, and I always hit the spam button without any hesitation.
However, I believe that if community leaders, and moderators lead by example, these people will need to adapt, or find a home elsewhere.

I hope you're going to enjoy your stay here.
We're working on a new installer. So, we're certainly going to need your testing skills.

Schoelje
