UP and BE/BO 2014.04.15 [CLOSED]

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 15 Apr 2014 10:19

On 15 April 2014 we have synchronized the production repositories.

Those who haven’t upgraded from the testing repositories, and depending on whether you’re a SolydX or SolydK user you will have between 500MB and 1GB of packages to download.

Found issues: After the go-live, I’ll start building the new iso’s.

You might have a slow download if people upgrade at the same time. Try again at a later date or time.

All mirrors are now synchronized.
If you encounter any problems, post your findings in this topic.

Below you find the Update Manager’s UP info page.
For users running BE/BO here is a slightly adapted version of the information page.

I recommend to carefully read it before you start upgrading:

Just a thought... Is it possible to include a link to a pdf file of the Update Pack frame so that users can download this info in advance of upgrading? This will allow both printing of the instructions together with the ability to zoom-in which may help legibility.

And the fun begins!

Update manager updated itself. (there is s typo on the title of the 'Update Manager Preferfences' menu)

Rebooted.

Update manager said it was going to do a heap of things including deleting Thunderbird and Firefox. What it failed to mention is that wouldn't provide me with the new versions of these programs.

According to it my system is up to date. I wasn't going to have a beer tonight but think i will now :)

So, are you saying that it didn't replace your TB and FF with newer versions? It should have.

Skygod
can you attached the updatemanager.log (that you will find in /var/log/) to your next post (probably you will have to compress it because it should be too big for the forum)

Hmm, is there any way to reverse the damage I have done or will it pick up my stupidity automatically this time tomorrow?

I'm afraid you started the UM again (or it was terminated before it could finish the upgrade), and the log file was overwritten.

Quit UM from the tray, and remove the history file:

Code: Select all

sudo mv /usr/lib/solydxk/updatemanager/updatemanager.hist /usr/lib/solydxk/updatemanager/updatemanager.hist.bak
Now, restart UM (from the start menu, or terminal), and it will indicate that there's a new UP. Just let it run.

The only problem after upgrade:

GRUB >= 2.00 has been unpacked but not yet configured.
grub-mkconfig will not work until the upgrade is complete.
It should run later as part of configuring the new GRUB packages.

Any solutions?
Resistance is futile...

You could try:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a; sudo apt-get -y --force-yes -f install
or start UM again. UM will try the same commands.

Just updated to UP 2014-04

My initial report is that firefox and thunderbird has been removed. I can not recall they were listed as packages to be removed, before hit the install button.

libjack0 is being held back, if I try to update it with synaptics, it wants to remove skype.

Edit: I do not know if grub has been configured correct. The "pop up" described in the instructions did not show up during install. When I reboot the computer it boots directly in the kernel 3.13, no grub menu at boot prompt

It doesn't help. Commands do nothing and UM says "System is up to date".

I reinstalled grub-legacy and it works. Can it be because I turned off EFI and system is on legacy with MBR?

Solved! Purge all the grub packages and reinstall grub-pc manually. :o

Check first:

Code: Select all

$ apt policy firefox firefox-solydxk-adjustments
firefox:
  Installed: 28.0
  Candidate: 28.0
  Version table:
 *** 28.0 0
        500 http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
firefox-solydxk-adjustments:
  Installed: 28.0
  Candidate: 28.0
  Version table:
 *** 28.0 0
        500 http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Do the same for thunderbird which should read "Installed: 24.4.0".

If not:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firefox firefox-solydxk-adjustments thunderbird thunderbird-solydxk-adjustments
or follow my post here: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?p=32624#p32624

Hello
UM stalls at
Setting up libc6:amd64 (2.18-4) ...
Checking for services that may need to be restarted...
Checking init scripts...

Restarting services possibly affected by the upgrade:
smbd: restarting...done.
cups: restarting...

it stays there, and nothing happens

Firefox 24.4 ESR and 28 FYI

Postby Nomen Nescio » 15 Apr 2014 13:50

Hi,

just updated/graded my two SolydKBE installations. The 'funny thing' was that one installed the 24.4 ESR version and the other had the 28 version together with the firefox-solydkxk-adjustments...

no idea why, but was able to solve it manually in synaptic.
