UP 2014.10.15

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 15 Oct 2014 06:44

Those who haven’t upgraded from the testing repositories, and depending on whether you’re a SolydX or SolydK user you will have between 500MB and 1GB of packages to download.

You might have a slow download if people upgrade at the same time. Try again at a later date or time.

Mirrors are not yet synchronized synchronized.
I will update this topic and blog when they are synchronized.

If you encounter any problems, post your findings in this topic.

Below you find the Update Manager’s UP info page.
For users running BE/BO: package updates are few. You can install these package as a regular update.

We recommend to carefully read the below information before you start upgrading:

While checking the mirrors, I saw that one has seized to exist: solydxk.ogun.org
I think that not many people were using that. I haven't heard any complaints nor did the maintainer notify me.

That leaves nluug and internode. So, if someone knows where we can get a mirror, I'd really appreciate that.

I adapted the mirrors.list

Starting with the virtual machines first, Thanks, Schoelje. I'll report back.
This likely means that your installation is broken. -Mr Pixbuf.

Upgraded my desktop machine (Intel NUC D54250WYKH with SolydK x64). Started with the update manager but something broke halfway and it didn't download all the packages (I'm guessing the repo is getting hammered so I timed out). I ran the pre-up script just in case, did an apt-get install -f. Then apt-get update, upgrade and dist-upgrade until no new packages could be found, rebooted and system is working just fine ;)

The first VM upgraded without hickups apparently, excepting that thing that we saw in the tests sometimes when rebooting. It goes to the login manager instead and should be rebooted from there. It gave me the option this time (not grayed out). Aside of that, after reboot it seems it's running smooth. Haven't found issues.

Going for the second.

Little issue with network-manager-applet [Solved]

Postby megamin » 15 Oct 2014 12:10

Upgrade went without serious problems, but after restart the 'network-manager-applet' is gone in the 'system-tray'. Connection is established (that's the reason that I can write the post), but there is no Symbol to 'click-on'. Anyone any idea?

I have forgotten to mention that I am using SolydK :o

For whatever reason "plasma-nm" was not installed. So everything seems to be beautiful

Thanks megamin

Hi megamin, and welcome to our forum!

I love it when people solve their own problems :D

Are you by any chance the famous and immensely popular (with my daughter, that is) super heroin "Mega Mindy"?

Hi Schoelje and thank you for welcoming me!

As far as I know I'm neither famous nor immensly popular ... and no heroin at all ;)

I hope I am welcome this way too ...

Well ...

under very special conditions wearing a pink suit can be the right decision ...

By the way, u and me talking about wearing pink suits indicates that the UP is well done

It looks like update has stopped on installing the udev update.
Should I just wait?

What flavour? SolydK, SolydX, HE, BE, 32-bit, 64-bit?

I haven't had a problem with udev and my main system runs SolydK64.

Please stop the process if you haven't done so already.
In terminal, run the pre-up script for good measure:

Code: Select all

wget http://repository.solydxk.com/umfiles/prd/pre-up-2014.10.15; chmod +x pre-up-2014.10.15; sudo ./pre-up-2014.10.15
Then, repair the upgrade if needed:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -f install
and to top it of, run the post-up script:

Code: Select all

wget http://repository.solydxk.com/umfiles/prd/post-up-2014.10.15; chmod +x post-up-2014.10.15; sudo ./post-up-2014.10.15

[SOLVED] gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders not installed

Postby kkatsaros » 15 Oct 2014 18:17

First time here, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this wonderful OS!

I had a problem during upgrade of SolydK HE 64bit and I'm here to report. The problem is gone now and the system runs ok, but I'll post the solution in case someone else is struggling with it. This could be a problem in my system (I'm a little risky...), so don't bother with this until it's seconded.
The problem was with png files not recognized, but this affected (among others) mostly Thunderbird which couldn't start. Running thunderbird from cli gave me these errors:

Code: Select all

$ thunderbird

(process:3941): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed

(thunderbird:3941): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading icon: Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/usr/share/icons/oxygen/16x16/actions/dialog-cancel.png'

...

(many similar errors with PNGs)

...

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_copy: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_height: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new: assertion 'width > 0' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_add_alpha: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_composite: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (src)' failed

(thunderbird:3941): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

To make the story short, solution was (as per here) to install a dev package and execute a command:

Code: Select all

# apt-get install libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev
# gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache
After this everything was back to normal (and better :-)!).

Once again, thanx for your work!
