New nightlies.
When the CEs are done, these will be the new official ISOs.

Currently running installation tests (in a VM) with the 32-bit ISOs. Looking good so far, but the EEs are a different matter. I created those first this morning and all four Live ISOs fail to launch with:
modprobe: module ehci-orion not found in modules.dep

No idea what brought that up... :?

Edit
Just noticed an error in the 32-bit main ISOs, so I'll have to rebuild them too. Ah well... :|

I know it's really a lot of work.
Let me know if I can do something.

I bet that it's a problem between the kernel and virtualbox.

Possibly. The 32-bit stable ISOs also had a kernel update yesterday but they're running an older VBox version. However, they have an 'unbalance' in VBox versions (host 4.3.28 / guest 4.3.18) while it's 4.3.28 on both with the EEs...

Anyway, the 32-bit stable are currently being uploaded. I'll take another look at the EEs later this afternoon.

Same problem with EE on real hardware, i.e. trying to boot the ISO from a USB stick. So not a VBox issue. Apparently this particular kernel wants something that isn't there: the ehci-orion module, which is indeed not listed in the modules.dep file. Any modules.dep file, for that matter. It isn't in that file on the stable ISOs either.

This is beyond me, I'm afraid. I've never played with kernel requirements and the like. I'll look around the web some more once this particular kernel version has been 'out in the wild' a bit longer.

I couldn't find anything relevant on the issue.

Although this appears to be about the armhf installer, I can't help thinking it's somehow related to this issue, particularly as one of the versions reported as fixed in the header of that report (linux/3.16.7-ckt11-1) just happens to be the one that causes problems...

Sounds like it.
It also means you'll have to wait until 4.0.2-1 hits testing (now in unstable) before building the EEs.

Maybe not. It seems the whole modprobe error message is a red herring. That's what you get when you're not into kernel related stuff...

The real error is elsewhere (see the script /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions for how this is induced). Now to find out what's really going on here...

Re: Nightly builds

The real error (which somehow ended up beneath the bogus modprobe message) is: (initramfs) overlay not available.

Which has to do with this:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=773868
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=773881

Which - unless I'm reading those bug reports wrong - will only be fixed in kernels 3.18+.

So your conclusion was indeed correct, Arjen, be it for the wrong reasons.

Essentially, live-boot on Testing with kernel 3.16 is borked and there's no way to fix that.

Of course, I could try downgrading to live-boot 4, but that's five months old and there's no telling what that would break.

Alright! I'll release the official ISOs with the 32-bit ISOs tomorrow and blog that the EEs will have to wait until this bug is fixed.

OK. The EEs currently in ce/testing (from mid May) are still useable, of course. Just a bit out of date by now...

But if you upgrade those now, your system will brake, right?

The bug is in live-boot. I don't see how that would affect an existing install.

Come to think of it, the mid May ISOs worked. They had the first instance of live-boot 5 (5.0~a3-1). Apparently that wasn't broken (5.0~a4-1 is). So downgrading to a previous version wouldn't mean going back to 4. Should I try...? Nah, forget it.

Actually, I did one anyway, just to see whether it could be done. :ugeek:

Not going to do the others, though.

Re: Nightly builds-SolydX 64bits June 20th build

Postby snowdust » 20 Jun 2015 19:31

Greetings,
Just installed latest build of SolydX. Wonderful and very professional. One little glitch: the Welcome Screen does not display in English. I tried to attach a .jpg file (395kb) without success. Following is a sample of the text:

Benwinguts a SolydXK
SolydXK és un Sistema Operatiu de codi obert per a empreses, organitzacions i us domèstic. Tant SolydX com SolydK estan basats en Debian Stable per assegurar la màxima estabilitat i seguretat.

Thanks for your consideration.

Edit: Finally managed to attach a .jpg picture
