Localizing ISOs with SolydXK Constructor

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 20 Jul 2015 13:13

As you all might know, the SolydXK team uses the SolydXK Constructor to maintain the ISOs. Up until now it was difficult to create a localized version of the SolydXK ISOs. That feature was not implemented in the SolydXK Constructor and had to be done manually.

So, I was looking for a simple way for ISO maintainers to create localized SolydXK ISOs. It would help those who need a localized ISO for their customers or simply want to maintain a localized version of SolydXK for our community.

I've added this feature to the SolydXK Creator and I successfully created Dutch versions of the 64-bit SolydX and SolydK ISOs which you can download and try here: http://downloads.solydxk.nl/localized/

If you want to maintain a localized version for the community, please post here or send me a PM.

SolydXK Constructor is in the repository:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install solydxk-constructor
Here's a tutorial (but start by reading the help file): http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=774

If anyone knows if it is possible to localize isolinux (syslinux), please tell me. When booting non-efi, you still see the message "Automatic boot in X seconds" and other English texts in the menu.

I'm still hoping that there are some people interested in localized ISOs, but anyway, I've updated the Dutch ISOs: http://downloads.solydxk.nl/localized/

Yes, that would be me! :) Thanks for having me! This is my first time doing this, but I'll try my best.
Please post any issues you might have with the German ISOs in the Testing Zone section of the forums! Have fun!

I made Japanese ISO of SolydK for trial.
The completion ISO was able to boot a live in Japanese safely:

solydkjp2.jpg
I noticed that a keyboard of Fcitx became English (英語).
This will be reflected by editing of /etc/default/keyboard.

Looking good!
Do you intend to do both SolydX and SolydK?

Yes, I performed the Japanese ISO generation of SolydX: :D
solydxjp1.jpg
solydxjp2.jpg
The problem of the keyboard was able to be improved.
(キーボード 日本語 = Keyboard Japanese)

When Japanese users install original SolydXK ISO in Japanese, it takes time very much.
It is because an installer downloads Japanese locale package and fcitx-mozc.
What enter the ISO with these packages greatly contributes to shortening of the installation time.
In addition, it is big that Japanese input is possible by live boot.
The user to put SolydXK in a USB stick, and to use can in this way expect it.

I obtain this result and will distribute it with generation of the Japanese ISO.
Formal ISO seems to be updated soon, should I wait for it to make Japanese ISO?

That would be best but at least now you know how to do it. :D

I grasped that there was a period by the next release.
and I had Japanese users perform test and wanted to get feedback.
Therefore I showed the Japanese ISO which test built:

SolydX Japanese ISO 201511 (201506 base)
https://osdn.jp/projects/solydxk/releases/p14801
SolydK Japanese ISO 201511 (201506 base)
https://osdn.jp/projects/solydxk/releases/p14802

As for this, a difference was born big at installation time:

Original ISO (38minutes):

Japanese ISO (15minutes):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFm_cyDA3eE

That is very good news!
Next time, you can also use the nightly builds for this: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5110
These are updated ISOs but still untested by the community. However, because they are based on Debian stable, I wouldn't expect any big issues coming from them.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The release candidates are ready for testing: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=6022

You can use these to create your localized versions.

If you are done, post back here and I'll see how we can get them on our server.

I have to generate a Japanese ISO based on the new ISO (201512):

SolydX https://en.osdn.jp/projects/solydxk/releases/64143
SolydK https://en.osdn.jp/projects/solydxk/releases/64142

Can do, but will probably take me till the end of the week. I'm pretty busy right now, but will get started asap.

I'm closing the translations for the ISOs now.

The packages that were now updated will be the last updates until the release of the ISOs. Of course, when things break and it can be solved by changing the packages, I'll do that.

I removed evolvere-icon-theme-black-folders as a dependency from solydx-system-adjustments. I never got it to show black folders in Thunar when running as root. It does work in Dolphin.

So, anyone building community ISOs: after the update you may remove the evolvere-icon-theme-black-folders package or leave it. If you decide to remove the package you need to edit the following files:
  • /root/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

    Code: Select all

    gtk-icon-theme-name=evolvere-flat-vivid-sunken
    gtk-fallback-icon-theme=evolvere-vivid-sunken
  • /root/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml

    Code: Select all

    <property name="IconThemeName" type="string" value="evolvere-flat-vivid-sunken"/>

I'd like to generate localized iso for italian language. I've done some tests and i *should* have done it correctly. Where do i have to move ISOs and other generated files? What service do you suggest to use?

I will report to confirm the bug of SolydXK Constructor.

If there are spaces in the work directory that we want to add in the "Add" Icon, it will not be added to the list.
For example, the directory in which I mount the partition with the label "SolydK EE" encountered the problem.
(The directory is example: /media/balloon/SolydK EE )
I made changes to this label name to "SolydKEE", it has been successfully added to the list.

There were several issues with the latest ISOs: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6090

Could you please update your localized ISOs and upload them to the server?

I grasped this problem. Soon we will start to re-build of the Japanese ISO.
but publication of the ISO is going to be 201601.
