A Christmas present from SolydXK

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 24 Dec 2015 18:23

It’s time for new releases again!

The new ISOs come packed with changes. I’m not going to mention them all but here are a few:
  • The Live Installer can now encrypt your partitions.
  • The USB Creator has been rebuilt and does create bootable USB pen drives for several distributions.
  • The Update Manager has new icons to indicate its status.
You can right-click to show the legend for the meaning of the icons. Left-click was removed. So, you will need to right-click to activate the Update Manager window.
You can download the SolydX and SolydK ISOs from our main site’s download section.

SolydX: http://solydxk.nl/solydx
SolydK: http://solydxk.nl/solydk

Community Editions
Work is still be done on the community editions and I will let you know when they are ready for download.

I hope you are going to enjoy these new releases and we all wish you a happy Christmas and a happy new year!

Kind regards,

Arjen Balfoort (Schoelje)

Greetings!

Thanks for the good news. How do I upgrade to 201512 edition? I just re-installed 201506 (Jessie) because my grub2 repair was messed up somehow.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Just run the Upgrade Manager.

Hello Schoelje,

Do you mean "Update Manager"?

The circle with 3 black dots in taskbar shows that my system is up-to-date. When I right click it as a trial to open Update Manager, the UM window indicates I am up to date. However the circle shows a green download arrow which means there are updates available. Then the icon shows 3 black dots again.

Perhaps I am too anxious?

tavies678: I am sure that Schoelje did mean the "Update Manager" and that "Upgrade Manager" was just a typo! As you have seen both the green, updates available, icon and a message that your system is up to date then I suggest this is an anomaly. As Schoelje is the UM developer I will leave this for him to resolve.

However, it will help if you could provide more information. Please open a terminal and post the full outputs of the following four commands:

Code: Select all

inxi -r
apt policy updatemanager
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -s upgrade
Note that the last command simulates an upgrade and does not actually change any packages.

Please also advise if you are running the main (stable) SolydXK edition or the (testing) Enthusiasts Edition.

Re your original question... "How do I upgrade to 201512 edition?". As long as you regularly update your system, either via the "Update Manager" or Synaptic GUI, or via the CLI with apt-get, then your system will always be at the latest SolydXK build standard.

Everything looks fine to me! The "four zeros" at the end of the (simulated) upgrade command show that your system is fully up-to-date. :-)

So, I will leave it for Schoelje to pick up the "funnie" with the UM reporting...

I really like SolydX and have been testing it for several week. I then tried to install the new version on my Dell laptop three (3) times and each time the installer would stop with an error. I then went back to the previous version and the installer worked fine. I wanted make you aware of this issue. Thank you for your all of your work.

I don't know what kind of error, but there's a new version in the repository.

When you boot live, open a terminal and run these commands:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install live-installer
live-installer
If you still have the error, please post back the terminal output.
