Redshift

Postby notlurking1 » 06 Aug 2013 11:21

Hello to all. I am very happy to be here as I find SolydX to be a wonderful and stable distro. I hope to be using it for a long time to come.
I am having a little problem with the application "Redshift". Basically its not working. Any suggestions. Thanks

First of all, notlurking1, welcome to our forum.

I don't know Redshift, but could you elaborate on the "not working" part? ;)

For example:
  • Did you install it from our repository, and did that go without errors?
  • Did you try to run Redshift from the terminal?
That usually gives you more information.

Basically Redshift adjusts the color temperature of your screen according to your surroundings. It is found in the Synaptic package manager. Please see the following link for a better explanation. Thanks

Its not working on my solydxk either, but i've seen it would need geoclue2 to work.

However , im still getting this error message :

rying location provider `geoclue'...
Started Geoclue provider `Geoclue Master'.
Utilisation du fournisseur « geoclue ».
Could not get location: xmlNanoHTTPMethod did not get a response from http://api.hostip.info/
.
Impossible d'obtenir une localisation du fournisseur.

any idea ?

That version of geoclue obviously uses a server that is offline. Anyway, Redshift (v. 1.9.1-4) with gtk-redshift works for me and I don't have geoclue installed. I think it gets my location from the system settings, so why would it need a service like geoclue?

Come to think of it, are you on a laptop and are you traveling a lot? In that case you might need a location service. But first try to get Redshift to work on it's own.

i don't know it asks it simply ...

and doesn't launch itself.

I launch it from the terminal , do you launch it elsewhere from, does it autolaunch ?

How does your

/etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf

looks like ?

I don't see why. See https://packages.debian.org/jessie/redshift. Wait, are you on EE?
Please post the terminal output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Frxz
apt rdepends geoclue
dpkg -l *redshift*

I use gtk-redshift to launch. This is for SolydX. redshift-plasma might work for SolydK but I don't know for sure.

As I said, I don't have geoclue.
