USB 3 woes: "unable to enumerate USB device"

Postby rolgiati » 02 Nov 2014 12:56

I have added a USB 3 PCI-E card to the box; when I connect a pendrive to it, I get in dmesg a number of iterations of:

Code: Select all

[168577.073286] usb usb4-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[168579.639821] usb usb4-port2: Could not disable after 2000 ms
followed by

Code: Select all

[168601.917179] usb 3-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[168601.989730] usb 3-1.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
[168602.093123] xhci_hcd 0000:04:00.0: Setup ERROR: setup context command for slot 2.
[168602.093133] usb 3-1.2: hub failed to enable device, error -22
[168602.165042] usb 3-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[168602.237592] usb 3-1.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
[168602.340926] xhci_hcd 0000:04:00.0: Setup ERROR: setup context command for slot 2.
[168602.340937] usb 3-1.2: hub failed to enable device, error -22
[168602.412918] usb 3-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[168602.413380] usb 3-1.2: Device not responding to setup address.
[168602.616756] usb 3-1.2: Device not responding to setup address.
[168602.820174] usb 3-1.2: device not accepting address 5, error -71
[168602.892308] usb 3-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[168602.892496] usb 3-1.2: Device not responding to setup address.
[168603.096415] usb 3-1.2: Device not responding to setup address.
[168603.299893] usb 3-1.2: device not accepting address 6, error -71
[168603.300343] usb 3-1-port2: unable to enumerate USB device
then more of the first.

According to http://www.linux.org/threads/recommenda ... card.4527/ I need the xhcd_hcd driver module, but cannot find it.

Any idea ?

The USB card is an Anker Uspeed PCI-E to USB 3.0 2 Port Express Card, with 1 USB 3.0 20-pin Connector and 5V 4 Pin Male Power Connector.
