System shutdown and quick reboot - all workspaces untouched!

Postby aWanderer » 05 Dec 2015 01:36

I was having trouble with the Update Manager, (as sometimes happens) it wouldn't show up when I double clicked the panel icon. The workspace switcher would show a window open, even though the screen was blank. I went to close the supposedly open window using my keyboard shortcut for 'close window'. This sent my system into a black screen with a flickering cursor for twenty-odd seconds before I heard everything shut down hard. Keyboard presses did nothing to wake the system up, so I pressed the power button. The system then went through POST and login. Upon login my workspaces were exactly as I had left them with very little loading time (they must have been in RAM). I found this very strange, what is going on here?!

I am still very puzzled by what happened. I hear that Windows 10 has a "pseudo-hibernation" feature that makes boot time lower, maybe something like that is happening.
