Update Kernel

Postby jlschwartz » 09 Sep 2016 15:34

I'm trying to update SolydX to the 4.6 kernel in the backports, but the system indicates the Linux Base needs to be at least 4.3 and is currently 3.5. Is there a way to update the base. I have a new laptop and would like to use a newer kernel. Thank you.

I had no problem with:

Code: Select all

apt install -t jessie-backports linux-image-4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 linux-headers-4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 linux-kbuild-4.6
but do you really need this kernel?

SolydXK needs you!

Thanks. I was trying to update via synaptic.
I don't positively need the update, but the touchpad works much better with the newer kernel.

I installed the updated kernel but I could not connect wireless and my system seemed unstable so I removed it again. Lesson learned.

Can it be a problem for the 'rolling character of SolydX' not replacing the kernel in the long run?
The kernel I use now 3.16.0-4-amd64 is doing o.k..

There is no "rolling character". SolydX is based upon debian stable and has the kernel of debian stable. I f you want newer kernels you are better off switching to SolydX EE, which is based on testing .
