Memory Usage (Question answered)

Postby J.Jay » 03 Feb 2017 01:25

Haven't been around these boards for a while
Used Year (or 2) back. Have kept a USBpen with this distro tho all this time

Now getting back to it (was cumpulsive 'DistroHopper') now mellowed alittle (maybe  )
trying new ISO (Jan17 one) thing to install on new desktop/laptop

New hardware so using EE version (8 has no hdmi display from laptop :x )

Also has a SSD inside. I'm I correct (what I read) the high memory usage (at least double from normal Xfce's) is due to the Installer putting some stuff (fstab's) into Ram to save on SSD's read/writes?

Thank You
J.Jay

IIRC, yes. solydxk automatically move some directories into tmpfs to enhance SSD life. the content could be disabled (or tweaked) by modifying the fstab content. though, I don't know if the memory usage rose that high.

Thank You for answer

that's one reason (the SSD) I was using mosly liveUSB's and not installing on the HardDrive.
**Think I found the "Distro" to Install their
I don't know if the memory usage rose that high.
went from 635 (in taskmanager) used from the liveUSB to 655 (in taskmanager) after install and upgrade!

Question: In the task manager is their a way to tell the memory used for this?

Thak You
J.Jay
P.S. I I think the Display/HDMI problem from stable vs testing is the newer 'Kernel' needed for harware support! Might try a 'liqurox' on a test install (of 'solydx 8) :?

Edit Yes using the 'liquorix' kernel in 'solydx8 solved the HDMI/Display not working
