run an application at startup

Postby sxphild » 06 May 2017 01:55

In order to use a video stream from a certain site,
I have to run an application manually - called "octoshape"
Right now it's in a folder inside my home folder.

I'd rather have this run at system startup.

How do I do this? Is there a place I can put a symlink to the executable,
or the executable itself?

Thanks, I'm used to the Windows startup folder...

Phil

Some Info: I am running SolydX 201607 on a Pentium 4
machine with 2G ram. Firefox is the browser.

I usually copy the .desktop file from /usr/share/applications to ~/.config/autostart/ or create one myself.

In the XFCE Settings there's an applet called "Session and autostart" (or something similar) where you can choose the apps you want to start on login - if that's early enough for you. You can add your own commands there (scroll down).
