Notification of Updates

Postby jlschwartz » 01 Dec 2017 22:43

I do not see an automatic notification when updates are available. Is there something you need to do to turn that on? I have had to check it manually from the terminal. Thanks.

Me too and when there are updates, a black notification box pops up in the upper right corner. In the tray area is an icon looking like an orange star? cogwheel? when updates are available.

You don't see those?
Please show us the output of dpkg -l pk-*

Ok. Now that I know what I'm looking for I'll watch for it. If I don't see it I'll post back.

Check that the pk-update-icon package is installed. That's what my dpkg command was for.

It is installed, so you should see the cogwheel/whatever icon in tray.

Am I supposed to see something in the tray all the time and it changes color if updates are available, or does it only show when there are updates? As currently, I am not seeing any cogwheel icon in the tray.

Sorry, I can't say because I have 1 pending update all the time - an update I would want to blacklist, but blacklisting doesn't seem to be possible with packagekit.

As far as I'm aware the icon is only visible if there are updates available.

You should see the cogwheel today - it's the 9.3 point release.

I did not see a cogwheel. Installed the updates from the command line.

The same issue occurs on my system. I’m using SolydX 9 on a HP G60 laptop. While I have very occasionally seen an update notice, most often I don’t and I check for updates in the terminal once a week. An additional thing I’ve noticed is when Package Updater is opened it shows:

Checking for updates ...

After completing the check, a pop-up window opens that says:

All packages are up to date
There are no package updates available for your computer at this time.

When I click on “OK” Package Updater closes. Then I often find updates available via terminal. The interesting thing is that I’ve seen the update icon in the panel at least twice in the past several months, so I know it intermittantly works.

Sorry, no idea how to debug this - I've got 2 SolydX9 systems without those problems. I don't know what happened on yours.
