Cannot Update My System - solved by installing apt-transport-https

Postby jlschwartz » 26 Apr 2018 01:05

I am not able to update as I cannot connect to the required repositories. :o I have tried to change to the new repository names but that did not work either. Please advise how to do this. Thank you.

Without any info about the current state of your system nobody will be able to help you. Please post the terminal output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxzr
When did you do the last successful update?

I wonder if this is related to the issue I'm having: since some time yesterday afternoon I'm unable to connect to anything on the solydxk.nl domain, unless I use Tor (which is what I'm doing now). Using wget I get:

Code: Select all

p07@asus /data/onderzoek $ wget https://solydxk.nl
--2018-04-27 17:04:39-- https://solydxk.nl/
Herleiden van solydxk.nl (solydxk.nl)... 81.169.195.233
Verbinding maken met solydxk.nl (solydxk.nl)|81.169.195.233|:443... mislukt: Verbinding is geweigerd.
That's connection refused on IP level. Is the server blocking IP ranges?

Same problem here in USA. I can only reach the forum via VPN.

I can get to the SolydXK Home page, but I cannot actually download an iso. "Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at downloads.solydxk.nl"

Plus no updates. Apt reports

Code: Select all

failed to fetch http://repository.solydxk.nl:80 (81.169.195.233) - connect (111: connection refused)

The system suggested that I install a package to allow https to be used. After I did that, I was able to update my system from the solydxk.nl repository. I had over 200 updates. All ok now. :)

Was that the apt-transport-https package?

If so, I already have that installed.

The apt-transport-https thing is a known issue. I'm changing the topic in order to get everybodies attention.

I'm wondering what kind of issue grizzler and tardy have. Connection still refused? Could you check your IP's and post maybe the first 3 numbers?

Actually some IPs are blocked serverside on the forum due to spammers using them - I'm not convinced that this is really a good idea since a lot of IPs are assigned dynamically.

I still cannot connect to the forum without using a VPN. Nor can I download an iso.

For some reason the server refuses connection from certain IP addresses, like mine and tardy's. There's not a lot we can do about that. Arjen will have to handle it.

As far as updating is concerned, the mirrors aren't affected (at least the Dutch one isn't).

I'm connecting from the USA with no problem. Yes, I installed apt-transport-https and of course changed the repository to solydxk.nl using synaptic. The only problem I'm having is that when I first boot up solydx the system waits for 1.5 minutes before continuing to boot. Can't understand what is causing that. Thanks.

Without knowing your IPs I can't check whether they are on the spam list.

Things started to go wrong here yesterday late afternoon.

I'm using the Tor browser to connect. It goes through ten or more end point IPs before it finds one that works. Don't know what's blocking things, but it's got a big list.
