(solved) Firefox-ESR: new tabs do not work; reset firefox button is missing

Firefox stopped working a few updates ago. It was working fine previously.

New tabs work fine in incognito mode; but since it isn't pulling historic webpages that functionality isn't tested.

I was trying to troubleshoot with Firefox's help; but the suggested "Reset Firefox" button is missing entirely from help:troubleshooting information.

Firefox in safe mode works, but doesn't allow the new tabs to work, and doesn't display historic webpages either.

I can't replicate that problem. Move the content of ~/.mozilla to some backup place and copy the content of /etc/skel/.mozilla/firefox/ into ./mozilla. If firefox now works as expected you can try to figure out how to recreate the profile content from your backup folder if there was anything important in it.

Thank you, that resolved the problem, and I simply had to copy my logins and keys from the backup to get my logins back! Thank you for the help!
