New Installation, No updates or Icon

Postby gpjones » 21 Jan 2018 03:52

Current version: 201801

Fresh install, bare bones with no customization.
No update icon in system tray - no way to check for updates.
Normally I see a shield icon with a blue color to notify updates available.
Never have seen this, otherwise like the distro.

(what am I supposed to see when it is working correctly?)

You should see something like an orange or red star/wheel. To start updates manually type "update" into the search line of the menu and chose the app that shows up (name depends on localisation).

Some additional questions:

1.) Have updates been released since the iso image was released on the 16th?
(I can start a manual update and it shows no updates available).
2.) Does the icon display even if updates are not available, only turning orange signalling updates?
(usually, this is what I see from other distros so am concerned that updates are functioning).

I should also mention that this is a Virtualbox installation. I am going to install it on my Linux PC to see how it goes.

Yes.

The icon only shows when updates are available.

Note that this functionality has been disabled in the live session and that the installer will install any updates during the installation process when an internet connection is available. On your first boot into the newly installed system, your system will have no updates to install.

Ok, Got SolydX installed on my "test" system.
1.) No update icon in system tray.
2.) Goto Menu "X" > type "updates". Up pops window > scan > no updates available.

I don't think I have ever seen a distro without immediate updates but you say that all current updates are loaded via the installation process. I will wait for a week or so to see if there are updates. I like the looks and speed. A pet peeve is the welcome screen where you install optional programs where you have to repeatedly type in your password. How about just once?
