(solved) Restore SolydX defaut desktop settings (whisker menu)

Postby zorzi » 21 Aug 2018 23:05

Hello,

I don't know why but after installing SolydX, I got an "ugly" default/vanilla xfce desktop.

I could retrieve xfce SolydX appearance settings, except fot the Whisker menu "x" icon. I don't know where to find it.

If someone can help.

Thanks.

Boot into recovery mode and login as yourself (not root!).
Copy the xfce configuration to your home directory:

Code: Select all

mv ~/.config/xfce4 ~/.config/xfce4.bak
cp -rv /etc/skel/.config/xfce4 ~/.config/
and reboot:

Code: Select all

sudo reboot

Thanks Arjen.

EDIT: Just to add that there's no really need to do the operation in recovery mode. It works perfectly in console mode (after logout from graphical/desktop session).

This just happened to me too - I inserted a pen drive, started gparted (which took endlessly to scan the devices) and the system suddenly rebooted. Weird.

Gone where the whisker menu settings, the solydx icon and the change user icon now is grey-on grey. But I wouldn't want to loose all my xfce settings by copying everything from /etc/skel/.config/xfce4. I logged out and started a console with ctrl-alt-f1 and copied only /etc/skel/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-9.rc into /home/xxx/.config/xfce4/panel/. It looks like it worked, I only needed to reconfigure my favourites.
