Forgive me, I come from KDE where they allow you to download new themes directly from the web to the theme setup page. (sounds better than it works though)

So it must be the gtk theme that changes the panel. I've changed the windows theme and that didn't do it. But I can't find where to change the gtk theme. Where is the setting for that?

You install themes with apt-get? I'll search synaptic, I've never thought about using apt-get to find a theme.

There are several settings for themes. Go into settings: under "Personal" there's "Appearance -> Surface" and "-> Symbols"; "Window Administration -> Style". I'm not sure about the english names, but something like that.

you can install an xfce theme from web too :3

though, finding a working theme is quite a chalenge. I usually use the themes in the repo.

I found one called Siki that seems to get me what I wanted. At least I have a similar color setup as I did with KDE. Now I can judge the desktops by their merits a little better.
