[SOLVED]commands in 9 not in 10

when using version 9 I was able to login as root and run
1. blkid to list my partitions
2 grub-install /dev/sda to restore the mbr to get SolydX boot menu.

when logged in as root in version 10 neither of these commands work and produce a "command not found" message.

am I doing something wrong or are these commands no longer availble.

Regards john

1. Please check whether blkid is installed with dpkg -l util-linux. I cannot imagine that it is not installed. Check the spelling. And don't login as root but as user and do sudo blkid. If you really really need to become root, use sudo -i.

2. Tutorial for grub repairs is here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7468&hilit=install+grub. You need to boot a live system to do that.

this is the output from 1.

dpkg -l util-linux
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name Version Architecture Description
+++-===================-==============-==============-============================================
ii util-linux 2.29.2-1+deb9u amd64 miscellaneous system utilities

2. was not required as running sudo grub-install /dev/sda worked ok followed by grub-update set up the boot menu

Many thanks John

I have also looked at these commands on Debian 10 and they exhibit the properties as described in the original topic.
