Trash location

Postby cristy78 » 21 Aug 2013 12:55

I have a question : how can I move/make the trash folder on each partition.?
I have system and separate home partition ( media/sda3) and every-time i move something from media partition to trash it moves in the system partition trash. Is it possible to use the .trash-1000 folder located in the media partition ?
( example....I sent to trash a large folder and it took a while because of the transfer between partitions. Instead of this it could be easier to use the trash on the same partition, right? useless to say that this makes the system partition to fill up .)

I was just thinking...probably the location is hard-coded, but what if you move the Trash directory to the new location, and create a symlink to that new location?

For example: move your home Trash to /media/EXTHD/.alltrash/

Code: Select all

mv ~/.local/share/Trash /media/EXTHD/.alltrash/[myuser]_Trash
ln -s ~/.local/share/Trash /media/EXTHD/.alltrash/[myuser]_Trash
Where [myuser] is the user name where you created the symlink.
In theory, that should work...
