Compositing Problem

Postby ishank.x » 31 Oct 2013 09:33

I have opengl 2.0 with raster set. BUT Every time i restart it falls back to xrender with native, thus shuting down all desktop effects. This problem started only a few days ago. Before that every desktop effects worked.
Don't understand why it falls back repeatedly.

fist let's check if you have openGL support, share the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Gxx
==

now we need to know what happened in these last few days

app installed/uninstalled? themes changed?
basically whatever small change happened that can help us track the problem down.

Code: Select all

ishank ishank # inxi -Gxx
Graphics:  Card: Intel Mobile GME965/GLE960 Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0 chip-ID: 8086:2a12
           X.org: 1.12.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) tty size: 110x28 Advanced Data: N/A for root
Recently i updated the october pack & installed a few themes like slim glow & Arezzo. But the problem still persists when i change to oxygen or air.

Like the OP, my sis's PC is also stuck on XRender with OpenGL not functional. This happened after adding packages. I don't know what all the packages were or what was removed in the process, I don't know how to find that out (which is why I haven't wanted to bother anyone here). But I do know that, just like the OP, it did include adding some theme elements, from the repos.

This isn't a big problem in my case, just a tiny annoyance because the cursor flickers sometimes with XRender. So I'll try to follow this thread. If it sounds like a similar problem and I can provide anything, just ask.

Yeah, it sounds similar. Cursor flickering is just one of the problems, basically all eye candy stuff are not working like 3d cube,etc. Now i'm sure it was due to the update. I disabled the desktop effects & OpenGL 2.0 worked , i enabled effects then again same thing. Its not a problem of hardware , because before the update desktop cube , magic lamp , wobbly window everything worked. I have searched for it in many forums but haven't found the solution yet , maybe another update will solve it.
