Lots of KDE issues after latest UP

Postby MasterF » 17 Oct 2014 07:48

Hello,

I'm using SolydK 64-bit and I've recently upgraded to the latest UP.

After the upgrade I've started having an issue: a Kresource migration tool would keep popping up and tell me it couldn't migrate the "Default Address Book". Additionally, Kmix and Klipper wouldn't start, and I couldn't watch stream any videos on the system (I've tried Youtube, minitube, Steam). I don't remember if I tried any local playback.
Anyway, I've fixed that issue by switching Akonadi to SQLite, deleting ~/.local/share/akonadi and letting it re-create it. After a restart the migration tool completed, and all the other issues were resolved as well.

Today, I've started having similar issues: Kmix and Klipper won't start, no video, Steam games won't get past the blank screen at the start. But, this time there's no migration tool complaining. I've tried doing the Akonadi trick again, switching it back to Mysql, but it doesn't help.

I'm currently at work, so I can't post details about the system, but in case any are needed I will do that as soon as possible. However, I think I'm not the only one affected by this issue.

This is a big UP with lots of changes, The Upgrade requires a few extras, especially if you do it via command line.
It's possible your upgrade didn't complete or missed something.
A pre-script/ dist-upgrade/ post-script is required, Update Manager should handle all but you may need to execute Update Manager via the command line.

First check your sources.list as shown here under SolydK
http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... 529#p14922

Next: To do the UP ... execute update manager via the command line

Code: Select all

$updatemanager
Check out the following thread, paying particular attention to the original post w/UP Instructions.

Since you have already tried an update and are experiencing issues it's likely that you will need to do as specified in this post:

If none of the above helps, get back to us and we will explore further.

I just wanted to mention that I managed to fix the issue by reinstalling the 201407 ISO and then doing the update (through the Update Manager GUI) before installing any extras.

I've tried to fix it without reinstalling but I messed that up pretty bad . One thing that might have contributed (although, I can't be sure) is that I had the NVIDIA proprietary legacy drivers installed before doing the first update.

I've found problems with setting up new users. Has anyone else found this?

This likely means that your installation is broken. -Mr Pixbuf.

further to my earlier post, I should add that that I have tried (in terminal)

sudo apt-get purge userconfig
sudo apt-get install kuser

Results are disappointing. userconfig is removed, sure, but kuser doesn't work properly - lots of error messages.

I've just tried this again, and it works! Perhaps a re-start was needed to activate.
How is everyone else getting on?
