Hi smitty1, as I mentioned 2 levels above, the find function does work if I turn to false, but in that case the popup tooltip doesn't work instead. The default content of my baloofilerc only contains the exclude filters.

Sorry I missed that, probably because I have tool tips turned off.

And Solved it by shear Intensive use of Mindpower! using Willpower,Meditation,Logic,Reasoning Power and....Ok ok ok just Luck. Open favorite package manager search on Baloo select to install "ballo - Transitional package for baloo4"
It will install 2 additional packages.

Thanks Orbmiser, is that mean you need to have a full installation of baloo and enable it? Because I think I don't need to use it, so it's impossible to work without file indexing?

Baloo is already intstalled partially before installing these additional packages. And no has nothing to do with file indexing. It's about the metadata access. Could be wrong but think metadata recall will work whether baloo is enabled or not. As mine is not enabled.

Maybe someone will chime in with more understanding.

My nepomukservercc in my home .kde/share/config/ shows.

Code: Select all

    [Baloo]
    migrated=true

    [Service-nepomukfileindexer]
    autostart=false

    [Service-nepomuktelepathyservice]
    autostart=false

    [main Settings]
    Maximum memory=50
So am not using indexing of any kind as far as I can tell.

Thanks to Snap for pointing me to this thread and thanks to Snap, Orbmiser and ath_pg for the contributions in sorting this issue. This system was in the same situation as ath_pg's. After installing the "baloo" transitional package (which installed 2 packages) as Orbmiser described above and editing ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc and ~/.kde/share/config/baloofilerc as described (using Indexing-Enabled=false), search in Dolphin and tooltips are all working as desired again. :)

Ok, after installed baloo (baloo-utils baloo4), problem solved. But I am wondering if full baloo is needed, why it is not included in the distro by default. Maybe this issue can be seen and the distro can be updated.

I guess it's because of the nepomuk to baloo transition being slow itself. Nepomuk is still widely used in so many KDE based distros. Baloo is slowly making it's way without much noise in KDE4, but AFAIK it will be the default in KF5.

I need to know how it works with ALSA. Being tempted by this card for some time to replace my FF800 and FFADO altogether. Will send you a pm. ;)

Same problem here on my 64bit SolydK Home Edition.
Solved by reading through this thread and taking the following steps.

1>Installed baloo-utils
Reboot
Result>Invalid protocol message stopped appearing but search did not work.

2>Added
[Basic Settings]
Indexing-Enabled=true

to the beginning of /.kde/share/config/baloofilerc
Reboot
Result>No change

3>Installed baloo4
Reboot
Result>Search works!

Thanks to all for sharing.

Yep could have saved a few steps by just installing baloo - Transitional package for baloo4
And it would have pulled down and installed baloo-utils & baloo4 for you.
