Discover doesn't automatically detect package updates

Postby ldgc » 01 Oct 2018 12:52

Hello people :-)
I noticed that Discover doesn't detect package updates unless I run "apt update" as root in SolydK 64 bit.
Please let me know if you need more info.

It should. This is part of the solydxk-system package. Please verify that you have that package installed.

solydxk-system installs the following apt configuration file:
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02solydxk-periodic
which has these settings enabled:

Code: Select all

APT::Periodic::Enable "1";
APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";
The latter will do a apt-get update once a day.

I am using Wi-Fi and when the system automatically connects to the Internet on boot it seems the update icon appears just as when I ran "apt update" as root. However if the system doesn't automatically connect to the Internet on boot and I manually start the connection, then the update icon doesn't appear.
Is this behavior expected?

I never have to run apt update. I too use wifi with my system and this morning I had an update on the kernel.
I really don't know what is causing your system not to update the apt cache.

Arjen Balfoort I will try to explain better what happened yesterday:
I was offline and my system wasn't set to automatically connect to the Internet and when I manually started the connection to be online the update icon didn't appear.
Then when I set the system to automatically connect to the Internet and rebooted the computer the update icon appeared. After that I deactivated the automatic connection to the Internet option and rebooted the computer and the update icon appeared while offline.
Perhaps the update script only works when the system is automatically connected to the Internet.

That sounds logical if you updated before on the same day, but if you didn't I suppose it is because it updates once a day but it doesn't necessarily mean it will update on connection.

That is correct.

It could be but I cannot speak from experience. I only connect automatically, even my laptops do.

Arjen Balfoort is it possible to instruct the system to show the updates when it is offline and I manually connect to the Internet?
If so how do I do that?

No, I don't think you can, or at least, I don't know of a way to do that.
