SolydXK Upgrade Script - it is still up-to-date ?

Postby pitfd » 09 Sep 2020 19:10

Hi everybody,

I have a couple machines with SolydX 9 on them. Recently
I tried to upgrade using the script, but encountered the
weird issue, that it was pulling and installing KDE pakets
on my system.

At some point the upgrade process came to a halt and
when I restarted the script, the KDE paket were removed
and installation went fine.

So after all the script was kind of usable, what are your ideas?

thank you

I have a machine I would like to upgrade but I'm also wondering if the script is up to date. So please, if anyone has the time, could we have a new script with 'step by step' how to use it.
Thanks.

We are a small team and there are always a lot of things on our to-do-list, so no - nobody will work on scripts for past updates. It's almost time to work on the next one. You'll have to rely on reports of other users.

As a general recommentation regarding the Debian version upgrades for regular non-geek users: Don't jump on the bandwaggon immediately, wait some weeks until every bug is squished. But don't wait too long because things move on. If you want to use the script I'd say you should do so in the first 3-4 months. Afterwards it might still work - and we leave the download link up - but the team will not look at it again.

There were massive plasma framework upgrades during last period. The script was made for a general upgrade case (i.e: no major transition changes). it might not works best when we have major changes just like this one.

Debian actually made more detailed guide for upgrades between releases. you can use our upgrade script after you fix these major transitions
