Issues installing solydk-meta [Solved]

Postby 17xeros » 23 Feb 2013 16:37

I followed the instructions:

"Users running the unofficial LMDE KDE can convert to SolydK by installing a meta package: solydk-meta.

Follow these steps:
kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.solydxk.nl/ solydxk main upstream import
su
apt-get update
apt-get install solydxk-keyring
apt-get update
apt-get install solydk-meta
apt-get update
reboot"

Upon reboot although LMDE KDE was set for automatic login I'm asked to login. I type the password but login fails. Tried many times it fails. If choose to login through "console" login is successful but no more stuck in a black screen. Typing "sudo kcmshell4 kdm" doesn't change anything, Any suggestions how to go through?
Thanks in advance

Just to state the obvious first:
Did you first select your user's icon from the list before typing your password?

Thank you zerozero, I didn't know where to post.
This problem had occurred a couple of times before with LMDE KDE RC and SR1 but "sudo kcmshell4 kdm" was able to let me get to the desktop and then go to the "Login screen" to enable automatic loging again and then all was good in subsequent boots. Not this time round though.

Schoelje, yes the username is filled in (automatically).

Ok, lets try to start autologin again.
After console login:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
Uncomment:

Code: Select all

#AutoLoginEnable=true
#AutoLoginUser=fred
Where fred is the user name you want to use.
Reboot and pray...

Thanks Schoelje, it worked. I opened kdmrc and although I didn't change anything since autologin was already enables and the username was correct. I save the file anyway, shut down the computer, reboot and everything went fine.

The meta packages will convert a system as if it's a clean install (more or less).
I recently used these packages to rebuild SolydX and SolydK from LMDE KDE/Xfce UP6.
These are the iso's you can now download.

Consequence is that for some packages (like KDM, Plymouth, etc.), the default configuration is installed, thus overwriting any custom configuration.

You not being able to login after that is of a totally different matter of which we haven't found the cause yet.

I might be wrong but I could not find this text:
#AutoLoginEnable=
#AutoLoginUser=
in the file /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

In "login screen" settings I choose automatic login, but upon reboot I have to log in again. Login is successful. Then I find the automatic login option in "login screen" settings has been unchecked.

You must have a kdmrc if you're running kdm.
I suggest moving your current file and replace it with the attached one.
First search for "17xeros" and replace that with the name you want to auto login, and rename kdmrc.txt to kdmrc.

Schoelje,
After comparing the two documents I found "AutoLoginEnable=" and "AutoLoginUser=" were there (in the original kdmrc.
I admire your patience and I do apologise for wasting your time cause of my petite incompetence.

Don't worry about that, but did you solve your issue?
