How to get 2 SolydX installations shown in grub ?

Postby OMGLinux » 21 Apr 2013 13:00

Hello ,

installed SoldyX 2 times (of course on different partitions; multiboot with other Linuxes), bcs 1st installation had graphic driver issues after update.

Grub only shows the last installation of SolydX. Even tried to repair/update grub, but still only the last installation of SolydX is shown.

How can get both installations to be shown in Grub ?

Newbie friendly explanation would really rock

TY

which installation (any of the solydX or other linux) has grub controlling sda (the mbr?)
[what you can do is boot into the system that comes by default when you turn the computer on and run sudo update-grub >> see if this picks the missing installation]
bliss of ignorance

SolydX (the 2nd install) has grub control based on background image and 1st boot entry.

I tried repair with a gui programm of a live linux cd (voyager a xubuntu spin). Didn't work!

After that I also tried to reinstall and repair grub in terminal (as seen here : Grub rescue http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php ... pair#p2116)

with
1) sudo grub-install /dev/sda
2) sudo update-grub

But still only one (the last) installation of SolydX is shown (1st entry) and the other 2 linuxes.

Can the name of the SolydX installations be a problem, both being the same, as I didn't change any defaults during installation ?

i don't believe this is the problem; i have several solyd installs and they all show up in grub.

give us the full terminal output of the following commands:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

Code: Select all

sudo os-prober

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l

You can try to reinstall grub for the installation that does not show up in your grub.

Follow this tutorial, but replace /dev/sda1 with the partition you installed your system that doesn't show up in grub:
http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=235

This tutorial assumes you installed grub on /dev/sda

SolydXK needs you!

everything in your output looks fine

have you scrolled down with the arrow keys to see if the solydx installation in sda8 is off-screen?
