No Sound in Browser since upgrade [SOLVED]

Postby spanner44 » 12 Jun 2013 19:25

Did the upgrade and everthing seems to have gone well, with one exception, whenever i try and play music or sounds within the browser, such as You tube or news videos etc, I cannot get any sound.

I have no problem with system sounds, cd's or dvd's so I know that it isn't to do with the system as such, so any ideas.

I am using Google Chrome version Version 21.0.1180.89

why such an old version? the last stable version is 27.xx http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.co ... pdate.html
from your description it seems like a flash problem: what flash version you have installed in that chrome version? is it already the pepper version? with such an old chrome version i doubt.

also is this issue cross-browser? can you replicate it in FF?
bliss of ignorance

Thanks for getting back to me, I thought it stayed up to date automatically.

How can I update this and Flash also ?

it should update automatically (and flash is bundled in chrome, so when you update one the other is also updated)
can you please share with us the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -r

Managed to do it now, thanks, I downloaded chrome stable and then installed with dpkg.

Hope that is correct, it seems to be up to date now and the sound is now working.

jason@spanner:~$ inxi -r

Run the following:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list
And add this to the file:

Code: Select all

deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main
And then run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
The repo should be added automatically but it doesn't seem like it was.
