Driver Nvidia legacy-304xx and new kernel

Postby fauser17 » 09 Apr 2014 09:15

Hello,
First excuse my english i'm french so...
I do not know if it is the right place but i don't know where to go.
I have SolydK and SolydX and also Debian Sid in tri-boot.
For the time being no problem with SolydXK and my graphic card (an "old" 7300 GT Nvidia) except with "Nouveau driver" which does not work, so i use nvidia driver legacy 304xx.
I just want to make you being carefull with new kernels above 3.13.0 which do not work with the nvidia driver 304.
I see that in my Debian where i'm obliged to go back to kernel 3.12.
I do not know how to resolve this "big" problem. Even if everything works well with the 3.12 kernel it will arrive a time where i should change my card or keep the 3.12. What a dilemma!
Any idea about that and about what is going in the next upgrade ?

hi fauser 8-) welcome to the Forums

the next UP will bring kernel 3.13

Code: Select all

Linux home 3.13-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.13.5-1 (2014-03-04) x86_64 GNU/Linux
and, indeed, i see (at least) 2 bug reports about this issue
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=740097
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=743907
bliss of ignorance

I use Liquorix kernels pretty well exclusively on Desktop machines and ALWAYS use smxi/sgfxi for graphics driver installs.

I can confirm SolydX, as well as MX-14 and Vsido Sid, all work perfectly fine on this 6 year old machine using kernel 3.13-6.dmz.1-liquorix-686 and Nvidia 304.119.

FWIW,
