[Solved] Webcam in SolydX

Postby Claire » 11 Aug 2014 15:04

Hi!
With cheese I can test my built-in webcam, but if I download it, there are to much additional packages (for a test only). Any alternative?

i dont understand why there are too many packages just for a test... apt-get install and apt-get remove will toss all of them on and remove them for you... course, what i understand is hardly important.

odds are, the things Cheese needs to install to make your cam work will probably be needed by the other things to make your cam work... if not, then they have their own list of dependencies.

however... try this: http://www.testmycam.net (NO WARRANTY ON SECURITY!!)

SolydXK is such a delicious flavor of Debian!

Claire: If you just want to test your webcam then VLC can do this and should be installed by default.

Open VLC then menu Media > Open Capture Device > Set Capture Mode to Video Camera. Set Video device name as required (e.g. /dev/video0). Then hit "Play" button at the bottom to display your video camera output.

Only If you have mplayer installed. This command works on my netbook. I use mplayer for things like cli_radio
and other terminal applications.

Code: Select all

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:input=1:width=352:height=288:device=/dev/video0

I sometimes use Kamerka on my Kde installations.
Thanks for the mplayer & vlc pointers, I'll have to give them a try ;)
