Has anyone got USB Speakers to work?

Postby aWanderer » 14 Jan 2017 05:01

I got myself some Kanto YU2 speakers for the new year, they have the old type 3.5mm input but I would like to be able to use the onboard DAC with the USB connection. Has someone gotten USB speakers working?

I tried rebooting, which made made USB DAC selectable from the 'audio mixer' but there was no sound coming out. I tried installing 'veromix' as per a thread I read somewhere else but those toggles got me nowhere.

PS I have been using SolydX for a while now and I'm pretty happy with it. I'll be throwing a small donation in soon :)

first of all, run "lsusb" to see whether if your usb speaker detected or not. if it detected, you can run pavucontrol and set it as your default output.

It looks like it detected:

Code: Select all

Bus 005 Device 003: ID 08bb:2704 Texas Instruments Audio Codec
Toggling some options in pavucontrol doesn'tt seem to do anything though...

Are you sure the line you copied is the one for your USB speakers? Remove them form your computer and do lsusb again. Do you still see the same line in the output or is it gone now?

^ Yup, it's them - good thinking :)

Under which tab in pavucontrol should I find the option I'm looking for?

on the leftmost tab. you'll see "built-in audio analog stereo". your 2nd soundcard should appear there. your music player by default will use the internal one so you'll need to change that. also note that you need to do the same for every apps.

^ Okay, that didn't seem to work. The two options were HDMI and Analog, no USB DAC.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Is this relevant to my problem? I don't really know what he means.. I mean I have to put the appropriate entries for my sound cards, right?

Code: Select all

Re: [solved] usb speaker not working on squeeze 6.01

solved. solution was:
cat /proc/asound/cards, showed [1] as the speaker, then added .asoundrc to my home directory
------------
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 1
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
}
--------
when I do "mousepad /proc/asound/cards" it brings up a blank, write protected file.

More info:

Code: Select all

inxi -Ax
