Still Here

Talking about SolydXK, another distribution or totally off-topic but within the Rules ? It's the right place!

Still Here

Postby disciple1964 » 02 Jan 2015 07:59

Hello everyone!

July 2015 will mark a one year anniversary with SolydXK. So far I have been testing other distros, to get to know them better, and the only one that I like other than SolydXK, is LM-Cinnamon. The fonts on it are very good, and are very readable. However, No matter what I still like Solyd and I don't plan on changing from this distro anytime soon.

I hope everyone is going to have a great year!

I've been here for a little over one year since I registered on Dec 25, 2014. I'm not using SolydX anymore. Something got corrupted and it wouldn't let me get to my desktop when I started by computer.

Because of this, I decided to go with Linux Mint 17 XFCE. I will try SolydX again when it moves to debian stable. I think that will be SolydX BE (Jessie). Speaking for myself, when things go wrong, I just don't have the linux computer knowledge to fix things when using a linux distro rolling release based on debian testing.

@Nightwing - you could try the BE edition - it is already based on stable (Wheezy) .

p.s. You must have enjoyed the Christmas break too much - 25 Dec 2014 is only a week ago !! ;)

Yep is expected for one reason or another users changing when SolydXK makes major changes. For me was requiring newer kernels and applications like Gimp & Krita nearer to bleeding edge to support my Hurion graphics tablet. So went with Netrunner Rolling (Manjaro) and been problem free last 2 months. Tho still hate Octopi and can't get Apper to work like in SolydXK. But positives are that will have an app or package I need over SolydXK not having it in the repo. As AUR: has about everything. And general updates every 2-3 weeks keeps me pretty fresh.

Without the breakage I was expecting and didn't. I now think of Netrunner Rolling just a more turbo-charged SolydXK. :o
Tho still love SolydXK and Family here!
