Solved - Update Manager shows updates available after update

Postby Albert » 18 Jun 2017 14:00

On 17 Jun 2017 Update Manager icon showed down arrow for updates available. After installing, the icon remains showing updates available. It seems that nothing was actually installed.

I've only changed repositories in Synaptic. However, now when I select Settings->Repositories in Synaptic I get the popup:

Repositories Changed
The repository information has changed. You have to click on the "Reload" button for your changes to take effect.
[] Never show this message again

I clicked "Reload" and got the popup: Downloading Package Information

This repeats whenever I select Settings->Repositories, so I cannot reach the repositories this way.

Sorry. Could you tell me another way to change a repo?

There is nothing in there but this:

Code: Select all

deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org stable main non-free

for what it's worth, a couple of days ago I got a very large update. It was downloading so slow that it predicted a 3-4 hour download. I left it to run and errand and when I got back it indicated that it had finished.

yep...everything seems fine now :3
as a final touch you can either update your system from the update manager or run this command. the update message should gone afterwhile

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get upgrade

please note that when new solydxk released, you'll need to modify this file again. the entry is

Code: Select all

deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org stretch main non-free
unfortunately, you seems have accidentally partially upgrade your system. I hope everything will OK but as a precaution, please backup your system before upgrading your system.

Thank you very much, Kurotsugi. I appreciate your patience. I wasn't aware that I had to do anything to be upgraded. I just assumed that all I needed would be sent to me through the update manager.

normally, yes. you can easily update with update manager and everything should be fine. however, there's a major event last week. new debian got released so there's major updates on every debian branch. your repo was,

Code: Select all

deb http://repository.solydxk.com/ solydxk-8 main upstream import
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian jessie main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ jessie-backports main contrib non-free
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org stable main non-free
if you take a look on the last line, it was "stable" instead of "jessie" while the other repo is "jessie". it was the cause of the issue.

this problem is sorted but your current system now is a hybrid of jessie and stretch. you'll need to be carefull before upgrading your system to stretch.
