Update breaks Virtualbox (SOLVED)

Postby smitty1 » 07 Sep 2020 21:14

The update this morning broke Virtualbox.
The Virtualbox Manager starts, but no virtual machine starts, either old or new. The error message suggested running modprobe vboxdrv but that didn't work.
I tried sudo apt repair and sudo apt install --reinstall to no avail.

I hadn't noticed that virtualbox & virtualbox-qt were held back in the update this morning.
I looked at the dpkg.log but I didn't recognize anything to give me a clue.

Code: Select all

2020-09-07 09:52:46 upgrade virtualbox-dkms:amd64 6.1.12-dfsg-9b1 6.1.14-dfsg-1b1

jim@solydx:log$ apt policy virtualbox virtualbox-qt
I then purged virtualbox & virtualbox-qt, and tried to re-install them, but the installation failed.

I have added liblzf1 from Bullseye to our solydxk-10 (Buster) repository.

Code: Select all

apt update
apt install -f
should fix the installation of virtualbox.

I see that there are regular updates on Virtualbox 6.1.14
I also noticed that the latest build has liblzf-dev as a build dependency. The first build was missing that which caused the install error on liblzf1.

I have uploaded the new version: virtualbox_6.1.14-dfsg-3 (the same as in Bullseye).
