High ram usage libcairo2 is the cause

Postby dbVU » 28 Oct 2013 13:23

A recent problem with Nvidia in Debian Testing causing high memorey usage is due to libcario2.
If you down grade to libcairo2 1.12.2-3 from Wheezy (stable) normal ram usage returns, in my case from a fresh boot I was at 590MB, after downgrade ram usage dropped to the normal 217MB.

Enable Wheezy repo in Synaptic: Seettings - Repositories - Other software or edit /etc/apt/ source.list add the line below.
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian wheezy main contrib non-free

In synaptic: Enter libcairo2 then select Package - Force Version - click Pull down select Older stable version Apply. Then Package- Lock Version.

This worked for me, YMMV

Interestingly enough, I've also read this will fix Google Talk functionality with the latest 10/06 updates. Apparently down-grading libcairo2 or uninstalling libudev0 fixed this issue.....
