Annoying Synatics problem

Postby xendistar » 08 Jun 2014 08:27

Having just installed Solydx and using Synatics to add and remove prgrams to my liking I am finding everytime I select a package to install\remove, Synaptics will then jump back to the start of the package list. I cant say that I have ever seen Synaptics do this before (used Debian, Mepis, Mint, Xubuntu), it is so damm infuriating it is driving me mad is there anyway to switch this behaviour off?

Maybe the easiest way is to use the "Quick Filter" at the top of Synaptic GUI. It will still scroll you to the top of the list when you mark something for install/removal, but that list is significantly shorter than the full set. Not a complete solution but it might be a good enough work around?

I did try that and it does work but it is not as goos as just been able to scroll through the list at will and select\deselect as you go. I dont know if this is a new option in Synatics (Debian version) or an option that most distro's dont enable just so damm infuriating. Would be interested to hear if anybody else has seen this issue in any other distro.

i believe that this issue was addressed in v.0.81
synaptic (0.81) unstable; urgency=low

[ Jonathan Dowland ]
* Support parallel building.

[ Luke Drummond ]
* fix crash when no SUDO_USER is set (closes: #725885, #728714)

[ Hans Joachim Desserud ]
* lp:~hjd/synaptic/bug1242219:
fix "Untranslatable '_Contents' string in help menu (LP: #1242219)

[ Rafaël Carré ]
* po/fr.po:
- fix typo in "%d packages will be upgraded\n" string

[ Igor Pashev ]
* portability fixes for rindex/bzero/fcntl (closes: #734473)
to make it build on "dyson"

[ Michael Vogt ]
* replace rindex() with strrchr() (thanks to Igor Pashev for the
suggestion)
* change refreshTable() code to avoid "jumping" around on the
screen when a package gets marked

the version we have in the archive is

Code: Select all

zerozero@home ~ $ apt policy synaptic
synaptic:
  Installed: 0.80.4
  Candidate: 0.80.4
  Version table:
 *** 0.80.4 0
        500 http://debian.solydxk.com/testing/ testing/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
bliss of ignorance

I noticed the same problem. Quite annoying when toggling between LMDE and SolydX. Would be nice to see this fixed in the next UP? :)

All depends on how fast it moves into Debian Testing. We have time yet.

Synaptic ver 0.82.1 is in testing now. http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/synaptic.html. So barring any complications it should be in the nest UP.

I think technically they call it a "regression" as it use to work as expected and does again. It only seems to be a problem in the version we have in the repos. Soooooo annoying isn't it?!!

I might install the newer version rather than go backwards, libraries should be ok. Oh, and of course I look forward to the next UP! :)

cheers,

The latest SolydXK testing repo updates now have Synaptic 0.81.2 and the bug is gone. :)
