[SOLVED] Calibre install

Postby t0psy » 22 Aug 2014 15:20

I am trying to install Calibre Ebook Library Manager from the binary below as per the Calibre website

sudo -v && wget --no-check-certificate -nv -O- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kovid ... staller.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main=lambda:sys.stderr.write('Download failed\n'); exec(sys.stdin.read()); main()"

It fails with the output given below:-

GnuTLS: The TLS connection was non-properly terminated.
Unable to establish SSL connection.

It does it on both my SolydX HE machines but worked on Xubuntu 14.04.

Any ideas as to why it is failing gratefully received.

I just installed from the repo's as way too much going on with their binary that I'm not familar with.
And since Calibre versions change so quickly makes for a struggle trying to do it from their site.

You must have xdg-utils, wget and python ≥ 2.6 installed on your system before running the installer.

Check out dependencies also as probably something not in the solydxk mix.
Repo has version 1.36.0 at the present moment.

t0psy: You could try substituting "curl -L" for "wget -nv -O-" as suggested in this post.

Thanks for the replies guys here are the results:-

sudo apt-get install xdg-utils
xdg-utils is already the newest version.

and

sudo apt-get install python
python is already the newest version.

substituting "curl -L " for "wget -nv -O-"
and bingo Calibre was downloaded, installed and all is well.

I am familiar with "wget" as I have used it for downloading bits of websites, I will now have to go and research "curl".

t0psy: I'm pleased you got Calibre working. :-)

It will help other users if you now edit the title of your first post in this thread and add the prefix [Solved]. Only the original poster (OP) can do this.
