Updatemanager permanently shows updates are available SOLVED

Postby bartonic » 14 Nov 2014 01:02

Hi all

Just a quick little query -- update manager on my asus ux31a permanently shows updates are available, yet the system is fully up to date (update manager's own pop up tells me so).

What might be causing this little anomaly and how to get that nice little 'tick' showing again?

Kind regards and thanks in advance! :-)

me :-)

Hi zerozero

Output is:

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  cgmanager libcgmanager0 libnih-dbus1 libnih1
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  systemd-shim
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Interestingly, when I use the update manager by clicking on its icon, it runs and eventually tells that everything is up to date...it makes no mention of systemd-shim being held back.

To autoremove or not, that is the question...

...and what to do with that infamous systemd :-p

Heyheyyyy rock'n'roll - it worked! :D Cheers zerozero...the shiny blue tick is back in my updatemanager.

...just out of interest, which side of the fence will SolydXK go if debian goes for a divorce? Will it go the systemd route or for the breakaway republic?

Looking at what systemd stuff has been doing (or not doing so far) on my own system leads me to the think I'm with the partisans on this one!

Cheers again zerozero
me :-)
