Postby kyomar » 04 Feb 2015 05:55

Hi, After the latest upgrade (2015.01.31, solydx he 32bit) the plymouth bood screen doesn't come up. Any suggestions how to solve the problem are greatly appreciated - thank you.

Have you tried resetting it with Debian Plymouth Manager (select solydx-logo AND resolution before saving).

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.
You can disable Plymouth altogether with Debian Plymouth Manager: scroll all the way down and select "None: no plymouth splash".

I have the same problem. The rest of the update was flawless, but Plymouth broke. Not a huge problem, I can live without it - but it would still be nice to fix the issue.

Thank you all at SolydXK for your excellent work.

I know the 32-bit versions have problems and I can't seem to get them to work in Virtual Box but still it works for me on metal.

These are the packages I have installed. Perhaps you can compare them with yours:

Code: Select all

$ apt search plymouth | grep ^i
i debian-plymouth-manager - Debian Plymouth Manager.
i plymouth - boot animation, logger and I/O multiplexer
i plymouth-themes - boot animation, logger and I/O multiplexer
i plymouth-x11 - boot animation, logger and I/O multiplexer

So, that's not it...I'm sorry I don't know how to solve it.
Perhaps there are some others here who like a good puzzle ;)

Same thing on the 32-bit ISOs (http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... =20#p50808). Segfault. I've wasted hours trying to find a solution. Giving up on it for now...

Ive found Plymouth really hit or miss these days. It does look nice but it rarely seems worth the trouble. Debian raw especially has issues with it a lot.

Edit: Especially seeing half our users boot problems are linked with it bungling the monitor settings.

If you and Tika build the ISOs as far as you can, I'll take a look at it.

This didn't work. After selecting/setting "None: ..." I get a confirmation with the "old" theme and no resolution. After reboot the "old" theme is selected with resolution.

I don't know why the manager didn't fix that, but you can do it manually:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/ splash//' /etc/default/grub
sudo update-grub
Before you do that, you can even purge all plymouth packages if you want:

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge plymouth*

purged plymouth and run the other commands - all good, thank you. Hope the plymouth problems can be solved.
