Hello,

I would like to know of a good video capture program for linux, that will also have the ability to capture the desktop.

Here is what I want to do, Currently I am using Ustream Producer to create training videos for my church, Although I can save the videos to my desktop, because it is not the pro version or paid version, I don't have the ability to capture my desktop as I am creating the video. I have looked for programs under linux, but most are no longer in development or they are CLI and I don't want CLI. The program has to work with KDE as that is my desktop of choice.

I currently have a logitech C270 webcam that I am using for the video, so the program has to be able to detect this and work.

Though I can find these programs that are windows based, I don't have money to pay 100's of dollars to get this done. If I have to separate the two, but having a video recording program and then a screen capture, Then I can make due with that. However on the screen capture program, I would like to have one that I can insert arrows and text to highlight a certain aspect of the screen capture.

Thanks for your help.

Two that come to mine are Cheese and Kamoso though I have had problems with Kamoso randomly crashing. Might have been my hardware. I think also VLC might have video capture/streaming abilities too.

Hello,

I think I might have found the perfect program, However I am still open to suggestions.

This program allows you to do screen capture and audio at the same time. I have test recorded some desktop actions, and it worked with my webcam, You can save them in several different formats and there is no lag between the video and sound. However, I do have a quad core system with 16gig of ram and 1gig video card, and I suppose that is a major difference.

Oh, I thought you were looking for video cam only. Sorry about that. There's also RecordMyDesktop but I haven't really used it, I just installed it just in case. I'll have to check out this ScreenStudio as well. It would be cool to be able to put a little video of yourself live at the bottom of the screen while it records the desktop and audio too. That's something I always wondered how they did that!

This solved my problem as well. You do need to install libav-tools in order for this screen capper to work, but it's exactly what I needed, and records without audio stutter. I'm going to go link my old thread to this and mark solved.

Vokoscreen is my goto for screen recording, not the prettiest GUI but it does the job.
