[Solved] UpdateManager problems

Postby docke » 14 Dec 2015 07:04

A few days ago, since I updated the system to version 2.7.6 the icon on the tray is gone, instead it shows something odd as is shown in the following image.
Also the right click on it does not work, then, there is no GUI available.
Updating to versions 2.7.7 and 2.7.8 did not fix the problem.
Is there a way to downgrade to an previous version?

The new icons are svg files (vector images) instead of png and no, you cannot downgrade, but you can do this to see if we can solve this (probably theme related) problem:
  1. Right click on the icon to quit the updatemanager.
  2. Open a terminal and run:

    Code: Select all

    updatemanager -t
Can you see any Gtk errors in the terminal output?
  3. You can do the same test with another theme.

If you can't terminate UM with right-clicking the tray icon, entering

Code: Select all

killall python3
in terminal will help.

Now it works! Thank you so much.

@ ilu
Thank you for the command "killall python3", I was not aware of it.

@ Schoelje
I tried as you said with the following terminal's output:

Code: Select all

owner@pc1 ~ $ killall python3
owner@pc1 ~ $ updatemanager -t
Command to execute: ps -ef | grep -v sudo | grep -v grep | grep 'kf5' | awk '{print $2}'

Done refreshing
Then, I closed the terminal but the contextual menu did not work, except the item "Legend".

I tried again, but this time leaving the terminal open. And the menu and GUI worked perfectly.
After I made a reboot the open terminal is not necessary any longer.
The output was this:

Code: Select all

owner@pc1 ~ $ killall python3
owner@pc1 ~ $ updatemanager -t

I'm glad you solved it.
Could you write "[Solved]" in the opening post's subject line?
