Batch jpg conversion software [Solved]

Postby dirigible » 01 May 2016 03:54

Hello all,

I need to downgrade hundreds of jpg photos to Pixel/Chroma Subsampling of YCbCr 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 so they can be displayed on a Sony Bravia TV via the USB port.
This can be done one image at a time with GIMP but it's very time consuming and mind-numbingly tedious.

Can anyone suggest software that can perform this conversion in batches?

The following two links seem to refer to your problem but, unfortunately, they are written for Windows and Mac systems:
http://blog.iqit.dk/2012/01/sony-bravia ... ality-jpgs
http://wouter.horre.be/doc/lightroom-to-sony-bravia

However, ImageMagick is also available for SolydXK (it may already be installed by default) and the related mogrify program is included.

Code: Select all

apt install imagemagick
It should therefore be possible to use the most important line of the code "mogrify -sampling-factor 2x1" in a bash script to iteratively loop around all your jpg files in a specific directory to convert them to the Bravia standard. See the "Batch Processing" section in the following link:

Hey Zill, thanks for the links, and for drawing my attention to the Imagemagick command-

Code: Select all

mogrify -sampling-factor 2x1 filename.jpg
After a little more research and experimentation I found that I could simply navigate to my USB stick with Dolphin and then open a terminal window in the folder containing my photos-

Code: Select all

mogrify -sampling-factor 4:2:0 *.jpg

did the whole lot in one go.
