Encryption wanted

What the best program to encrypt a folder (along with sub folder and files). I don't need or want to encrypt an entire hard disk or partition, just a folder. I would prefer something with a gui if possible. I am running SolydX-ee if it makes a difference

Using the Software Manager install "Veracrypt".
It will create a encrypted container where you can store your folders and files.

My software-manager doesn't have Veracrypt - which is no surprise, since Veracrypt is not in the debian repository and - as far as I know - also not in Solydxks repository. It's probably ok to use it anyway (I don't know) but I don't think it's installable via Softwaremanager.

Single files for transfer can easily be encrypted while archived - there are several encryption methods available, depending on your filemanager, and there is 7zip.

The debian default method would be ecryptfs but I couldn't find a gui. It should be possible to use a script for some filemanagers (f.e. Nautilus).
For Thunar there's a CustomAction described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ThunarCustomActions using bcrypt. It might be possible to adapt this using other methods but I haven't tried.

Sorry, I forgot that I installed it from a private repository. That is the reason I see it in the Software Manager.

If there is somebody interested, the url of the deb file I have installed is http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/v/veracrypt/

This is the "MX and MEPIS Community Repository". Although I'm sure the Mepis/AntiX/MX distro can be trusted I'm not sure about a community repo. This depends very much on how the community repo is maintained. Who can upload? I tried to check but their link was dead (server error). I could not find any link on their official site https://mxlinux.org/community-repo. Well, I just searched 5 min, but you might invest more time to be sure.

And with encryption you probably want to be sure! So if you decide to use Veracrypt I would prefer to get it directly from their website http://veracrypt.codeplex.com/.

Edit: I found ZuluCrypt. It's in debian and it can use different encryption methods. You should have a look: (german) https://immersia.de/2014/06/zulucrypt-d ... uer-linux/ (english) http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2013/153/zuluCrypt.

Well I went with Veracrypt, simply as it was the first one I tried and does what I want it to do. I downloaded the files from the Veracrypt website and installed them (not .deb, unfortunately). I will see how it goes.
